Hi
We live abroad and at Christmas volunteer to buy a gift box and fill with gifts for one of the children at a local orphanage.

This year we have been given a boy of 13, and one thing on the brief is a game / activity. Previously we have had a toddler aged child to gift for, which was much easier! But as 13 is a hard age for any child, I was to get him some nice things.

I was thinking of maybe a card game, not sure if there are any good ones around you can play alone as well as with others?

If not, what small activity gift could I get?

We have some T-shirts, socks, boxers, chocolates and sweets. Which were on the brief. And you can then add any extras, and my children want to get him some pyjamas, a hoodie, and some chocolate coins.

Can't gift toiletries as they are gifted separately.

Any other ideas? What little gifts are nice for 13 year old boys?

Thanks

Perplexus
Stunt/trick yo-yo
Waboba moon ball

WhatonEarth1 · 13/11/2021 11:36

Sorry, not Tetris. I meant Rubik’s cube

WhatonEarth1 · 13/11/2021 11:36

Juggling balls
Diabolo

Remote control car? I got one for my nephew, same age for £12.99 and he loved it.

I'd avoid anything that needs batteries or charging.

Rubik's cubes are really good (you can also get other shapes other than a square)
Yo-yo (a good one)
Fidget cubes/spinners

alrightfella · 13/11/2021 11:47

Yes to the moon ball or any really bouncy / different type of ball

Even those weird squeaky/stretchy things

If you can only get one I'd go for a Rubik's cube

Oh wow thank you, such good suggestions!
We have some good toy shops around so I will head out this week and see what I can find.

@WhatonEarth1

Juggling balls

At 13, he's probably investigating this already. Grin

Rubik's cube is great. Also Exploding Kittens (child friendly version, not the rude one) and Uno were big hits with ours at that age.

I have a 13 year old DS - agree with Exploding Kittens and Uno, also a fidget toy, he also has some anti-stress putty (therapy putty?) in 5 different colours & resistance levels which he asked for and really likes. Also maybe some sort of puzzle book, mine will do word search/spot the difference

Thank you! Great ideas! Think we will definitely have some great gifts wrapped and packed in the box ready to deliver to him!

Laser maze is a good game for that age.
Or for playing alone, IQ puzzler pro or IQ fit

Waspie · 13/11/2021 15:41

Chess set. My 13 year old is chess crazy, as are his friends - it's really risen in popularity over the past year.

What about a logic game, I remember a parking one where you have to move the cars in a certain way to be able to park all the cars correctly - called rush hour? I think. I'm sure there are others about too

An empty comic book / art pad and pens?
