Christmas tree tat - how many baubles?

Replaced my old £10 tree that looked like a loo brush with this 7ft pre-lit artificial Alpine. Bought 36 glass baubles and 10 wood Nutcracker figures. 300 lights on it too. Will this be enough? I'm clueless - previously it was a string of 40 lights on loo brush tree and nothing else! www.balsamhill.co.uk/p/alpine-artificial-christmas-tree?sku=2803075

It’s all down to personal taste really. I like 80-100 plus lights per foot of tree so we have an 7.5ft tree with 1000 soft white lights.

There are 100 mixed generic baubles minus a few breakages over the years, 30 wooden houses, 30 wooden stars, 30 metal stars then about 20-30 special baubles and ornaments.

Our other trees have as many lights but less baubles. The hallway one is decorated with about 100 decorations built up over the kids lifetime from nursery makes to ones they have chosen.

alrightfella · 13/11/2021 13:48

That looks like a very tasteful tree so I'm sure that will be fine and look beautiful.

We have a 7ft tree with 2000 lights and a zillion mis matching baubles Grin

mrstreacle · 13/11/2021 14:14

We don't do tasteful, we do as much as can possibly be fitted on the tree and when it looks full we add a bit more. But we have decorations we've collected over the years and always buy a couple of new ones each year

I’m wondering if it is too tacky to hang these on the tree, and in the interests of equality, will they bring out a male equivalent?

I get a real tree about 5ft and have 400 lights on it. I have about the same number of white different ornaments as you and clip on birds. It's less than I used to have when I had a cheap artificial tree, but I like the understated natural look.

chesirecat99 · 13/11/2021 14:43

36 baubles and 10 wooden Nutcracker figures is going to be a very minimal looking tree but that style could probably take a minimalist look.

We probably have over a hundred decorations on a more traditional styled 7ft Christmas tree and over a thousand lights. It would take a lot more to achieve the fashionable "overdressed" look.

We also have small minimalist table top 1m pre-lit birch tree in the dining room. That has 12 glass birds and 30ish small glass baubles.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 13/11/2021 14:53

That penis bauble! Christ, I could draw some dicks on a white bauble and make them look a bit less slapdash! £18!! If anyone is stupid enough then I suppose..

For reference, I have 400 baubles on my tree. It takes me 6 hours to decorate.

Fifthtimelucky · 13/11/2021 14:58

I obviously like far fewer lights than most. I usually have a 6ft tree and think I only have 120 lights. Lots of decorations though, but not sure how many. There are always a few of my least favourite that I can't find room for.

idontlikealdi · 13/11/2021 15:04

We've got a 7ft tree, three strings of lights, I think we have 1000 on each string. They're all multicoloured, god knows how many baubles, nothing matches and I love it!

maofteens · 13/11/2021 16:37

I couldn't count the amount of ornaments on my tree - well over 150 for sure, dating back to when I was a kid (I'm 59). I think I have about 800 or more lights - warm white and red. I quite like multi coloured but not the bright LED ones so kids have vetoed it. I have a theme for the table and wreath (last year Nordic white, this year red and green trad), but the tree has all sorts in it - and some ornaments not at all Christmassy (I have a mini deck chair for example).
Just start doing it and you can always add more!

goose1964 · 13/11/2021 17:43

I think we have 400 lights on 6 ft tree and well over 50 baubles

Streamingbannersofdawn · 13/11/2021 18:18

I like baubles, if there is room for more baubles, then there aren't enough, but I think you should do whatever you like best. There are no rules and I love how everybodies tree looks so different.

godmum56 · 13/11/2021 18:34

OT but i really want this....get all your friends together, give them a few drinks and blow their minds Grin

suzy2b · 13/11/2021 18:45

Don't like it ,thought this was the one you were throwing away, not worth the money, it's not bushy sainsburys to a nice, but not sure about this year as a lot of their things are now Habatat

PoshWatchShitShoes · 13/11/2021 18:50

We've got a 7.5ft tree with 2000 lights. I was actually thinking last year that I wish I'd found 3000 😂

I have hundreds of baubles!!

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 13/11/2021 18:55

100-200 lights per foot and around 20-30 baubles per foot.

For me, anyway Grin

DockOTheBay · 13/11/2021 18:58

Sounds like plenty to me. We have about 10 baubles and probably 25 other things like things the kids made, ones I collected over time, hand me downs etc.

30 baubles per foot would be 180 baubles on one tree. How would they even fit!?

MrsWhites · 13/11/2021 19:01

It depends on what kind of look you are after, if you want it to look very minimalist then you probably have enough.

Personally I don’t have lots of lights - 500 for a 7ft tree but I do have lots of decorations, sparkly twigs, feathers etc so a minimalist tree is not really my kind of tree 🤣

Amiable · 13/11/2021 19:01

My family laughs at me because I am very much of the belief that if you can still see the tree you need more baubles!

The rest of Christmas can do one, but I do love the tree!

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 13/11/2021 19:22

You'd be amazed Grin - but we do make sure some go into the centre to give depth so sometimes a branch holds up to 3 baubles at differing depths.
