Really struggling with ideas this year - she doesn't really 'play' anymore. She's into singing, dancing, art and craft, drawing and science.

What are you getting for your daughter?

Fimo kits
Sloth things (bento box, nail files)
Odie
Jelly cat sushi teddy
Pass the pigs game
Fidget toys

FabricedeSauveterre · 13/11/2021 08:57

Smiggle backpack
Watch
Purse pets
Harry Potter stuff

Got her a sewing machine for her birthday

DeathMetalMum · 13/11/2021 09:03

Water colour paints and some water colour paper.
Stitch cushion.
Harry potter quiz game.
New Story Treehouse book.
Christmas joke book.
Tabletop air hockey.

There will be a few other bits including main gift from santa which is yet to be decided.

We got dd1 a bit older a Bluetooth speaker with a disco light and microphone a few years back which was a big hit. It's not a huge speaker so they can use it upstairs and it doesn't disturb us too much downstairs.

foxgoosefinch · 13/11/2021 09:17

DD is 8 and so far I have:

Harry Potter Lego
Glittery backpack
Glitter ball LED lamp for her room
Gravity maze and Blokus games
Some book sets
A toy hamster in a ball which she wants 🤣
Harry Potter t-shirts
Glass and stone painting pens for decorating pebbles, mugs etc.
I think that’s it but there may be a couple of other small things.

I was originally thinking about a Switch, but aside from the expense, right now she really doesn’t need any more screens (have to restrict iPad and TV quite heavily already or her behaviour gets horrible).

Thinking about maybe an Instax camera as she loves art and photography.

I gave my 8 and 4 year old junk mail this year and let them circle the things they're interested in, they both had a ball and now I have lots of ideas.

sundaymondayhappydayss · 13/11/2021 14:43

It's such a difficult age isn't it. She just doesn't seem to want toys. Wasn't expecting to reach this stage just yet! Thanks for some great ideas though

My almost 8yo DD is similar. I have randomly brought a small ‘first’ sewing machine for £16 from hobbycraft last week which the reviews look great for.

Other things she wants are
Fidget toys - 1 of every kind
Harry Potter anything
Lush bath bombs
More art supplies (stickers, glitter pens, coloured paper).

What about a magazine subscription? Maybe national geographic kids?

UsernameUnavailable1 · 13/11/2021 15:07

A how to draw book (animals maybe?), a nice sketchbook and some grown up pencils/ paints?
A filled sewing box and a kids sewing book maybe might be up her street too?
Lego technic rather than lego which is a bit more grown up/ technical

Lauren1983 · 13/11/2021 15:13

Top and leggings set from Sainsbury's
Love Hearts bath set
Xmas themed throw
Fluffy socks
Gloves with her initial on
Ninja Cat books
A Fingerling (to replace one which stopped working)
Roblox gift card (the main thing she wants!)

Lauren1983 · 13/11/2021 15:16

A big hit last year were some Top Model books. They are dress up dolly books but more grown up that you can colour and put stickers on.

ExplodingCarrots · 13/11/2021 15:23

I struggled this year too Op, DD is also 8.
This is what she's getting :

  • slime
  • a kuddly (an oodie basically )
  • nerf gun and target
  • volcano making set
  • loads of pens , felts and colouring books (she loves kawaii, anime , cats )
  • little bits and bobs from Claire's like jewellery and hair accessories

I'm getting her a how to draw faces book, she really wants to be better at that. I'm going to get her some artists pencils too. I've been looking at sewing machines (kids/mini ones) today for her, I think she'd really like that. Even though she no longer plays with her barbies she's interested in making clothes for them. Will get some paints and canvasses too since that's something she really enjoys.

I think I'm finding it more difficult because her younger sister is still L.O.L and Barbie mad. I'm worried she will feel left out somehow, but pointless buying all that stuff if she's not overly interested

Games for the Nintendo switch
Make up pallet
Some anime figurines
Anime posters for her wall
Books
Craft stuff

CoffeeChocolateWine · 13/11/2021 16:54

It’s funny because last year my DD was 8 and I REALLY struggled for ideas for her. But this year I’ve found her the easiest of my 3 children! Hits from last year (birthday and Christmas) were a karaoke machine, a faux fur coat, roller blades, animal adoption, a panda cushion and a Djeco scarf painting set. This year she’s getting (from us and extended family)…
2x Lego Friends set ( she was quite late to get into Lego so this is definitely still a novelty for her!)
Hairstyling head with tripod and accessories
Hype rucksack for school
Gemstone dig kit
Fake oodie
Ice cream maker
Buttonbag knitting set
Toiletries set
Horrible Histories board game
Doodle pillowcase
Lots of books

PiesNotGuys · 13/11/2021 16:59

Zookeeper for a day experience.
Train set.
Toy till for playing shops.
Kids against Maturity.
Tool belt.
Circuit maze.

That’s what my DD8 is getting

WeeM · 13/11/2021 17:01

I agree it’s an in between age. Roller skates here and a mini suitcase. A giant hoodie. Like the handbag idea...might get that. We usually always get a new board game too. Some clothes, maybe new bedding. And she’s asked for books too.
