Christmas booze

Where and when are the best deals for Christmas booze. I think I definitely need Bailey's and gin. Is the Aldi gin good or any other supermarket versions.

If you have a clubcard Tesco have some good prices on spirits. Baileys is currently 1l for £12 in Tesco with clubcard and also Morrison.

Hortus gin at Lidl is good, lots of supermarkets have gin on offer. If you just want a supermarket one you are unlikely to get a deal but you if you pay a bit more you'll get a deal on a 'name'.

Tesco’s is £7.50 for a bottle ( rather than a lt) that makes it great for bottle presents.
Everywhere will do 25% off somewhere before now and Christmas,

The Lidl Horus stuff was bad. Very artificial tasting. Better off with apremium brand but at cut price stuff for gifts. Waitrose green label fizz is slways on offer at £7.49. Or the Magnum size is £16 on offer. Both taste and look fantastic.

Aldi do a Cremant de Jura in a blue bottle that is much nicer than anything else for a similar price, if you want fizz.

I have to disagree Waitrose green label tastes good - it doesn't taste of anything at all! It's wine for people who don't like wine.

In general I quite rate Aldi for wine. I never think Baileys-type drinks taste very different wherever you get them.

Lightisnotwhite · 12/11/2021 21:04

Yes but that’s what makes it great at Christmas.
It’s nice but inoffensive. Whether you like wine or not. And its Waitrose so no one can object. Even if you love wine you appreciate a drinkable bottle over a cack one.

SarahAndQuack · 12/11/2021 21:12

Oh, I get what you mean - it's definitely inoffensive. I always forget because I genuinely like fizz, but I know my mum is not actually a fan and wants it purely because it's 'celebratory,' so I should probably get some when she comes.

But I stand by the Aldi cremant being really nice if you're into that sort of thing!

Lightisnotwhite · 12/11/2021 21:17

Yep. I hear you I love Cremant. Love more ballsey Cava myself.
However you want to give something that anyone would like. It’s really nice.

SarahAndQuack · 12/11/2021 21:20

I think I'm going off on a tangent (sorry OP!) - but what cava would I like if I like cremant? I tried it once ages ago, and found it too sweet and just not very nice, but it was quite a cheap one, so perhaps not a fair test.

Just to wrestle things back on track, OP, I personally can't stand Advocaat but I know some people view it as a Christmas staple; I asked DP and she says the Aldi version is really nice.

(No, we are not sponsored by Aldi. Honest.)

The Co-op do a lovely own brand pink cava... and it's in the chilled cabinet so you can literally buy and it and drink it ☺️

Sounds good! Smile

Baileys is £10 a litre at the moment in Asda.
