I thought this would be a great present for DD but apparently you cannot get the caterpillars until March.
DD and I will have forgotten about the present by then so I am looking for something similar. Not spider monkeys or plants though.
Does such a ting exist?

I don't approve of giving living creatures as presents. Or keeping them captive for entertainment.

Yes stick insects.

You'll read a million reviews saying people get overrun with them, but if you just clean them out once a week/10days ish it's not a problem. My son had his for December birthday and they hatched in the New Year I think.

I would still go for the caterpillar set OP, and your DD can look forward to getting them in March. My DD got a set last Christmas and then got the caterpillars in the spring. It was brilliant and she loved it.

I can send you some slugs, to breed or to study.. and I did have two little snails on my kichen window today, you can have them too.

Dd2 had a praying mantis as her gift last Christmas. He was a fascinating little creature. Really easy to care for & very very low maintenance. They're speedy little things though; you have to watch constantly if you have them out -Errol nearly ran between the sofa cushions once before I could even react to him having run!

We're currently considering another; just not sure which species yet. Errol was an orchid & I think she's quite keen on another flower mantis.
