Why do people wait until Christmas Eve night to do the wrapping?

So many people talk about having to get excited kids to sleep so they can do the wrapping.

Why leave it til then? Confused

I like doing it then, it's Christmassy. Plus I can just say that's what I'm doing and forbid anyone else from coming in, which I can't do another day.

Redglitter · 11/11/2021 22:03

I hate wrapping presents. I put it of and put it off and do it on Christmas Eve because I can't put it off any more

FlickerBeat · 11/11/2021 22:03

Me and DH did this last year, and ended up in bed at about 2am. 'Twas a mistake Grin

Punkyfish3000 · 11/11/2021 22:03

I tend to wrap on the day of purchase/delivery

Angel2702 · 11/11/2021 22:04

We were just talking about this. I’m the complete opposite. I detest wrapping presents and hate having it hanging over me. I wrap as I buy now and get it done as early as possible. I don’t want to be wrapping up anywhere remotely close to Christmas Eve.

samwitwicky · 11/11/2021 22:04

Why does it matter? Confused

PiesNotGuys · 11/11/2021 22:04

Because it’s fun and exciting.

It doesn’t take very long - an hour?

We do the kids stuff Christmas Eve so it all arrives under the tree in the morning. But most other things get wrapped a few a day as we go

ClemDanFango · 11/11/2021 22:04

Can’t. Be. Arsed.

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 11/11/2021 22:04

Cos now the DCs are teens and we don't have to pretend about any of it it's actually a lovely sociable thing to do together. Also we use re-usable gift bags now so it's nice and quick. We set up a wrapping station and then one person at a time wraps their presents, the DCs bring them through and put them under the tree, whole thing takes about an hour.

sunshineandrain82 · 11/11/2021 22:05

Every year we say we will wrap early.
Every year come Christmas Eve it's a mad dash to wrap presents. We seem to always end up with something else to do.

FlickerBeat · 11/11/2021 22:05

My Aunty starts buying in Jan and wraps as she goes (nothing to do with budgeting, she just likes to feel organised) so there is nothing to do in December... WHY?!

See, I don't get this at all. I don't even really start buying presents till the beginning of December, because I like to do Christmassy things in the month!

HalloHello · 11/11/2021 22:06

Nah the magic for me is arranging all the previously wrapped pressies under the tree, filling stockings, building big things with a film on and wine.

Although do enjoy a few evenings during December watching a Christmas film with Bailey's and wrapping pressies.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/11/2021 22:06

I'd rather clean the over than wrap presents. I leave it until the last minute in the hope that some elves will do it for me.

It's such an absolute waste of time. I can't remember how any gift I was received was wrapped.

Gilly12345 · 11/11/2021 22:06

I don’t know why please wrapping until Christmas Eve, sounds daft and stressful to me.

Why people leaving shopping, wrapping until last minute I find odd, it’s not as if Christmas is a surprise.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/11/2021 22:08

I just want to wrap it in tin foil and be on my way!
Igneo · 11/11/2021 22:08

I wait until xmas eve, so that i know i’m not buying any more, and can divide the presents up fairly. If they are already wrapped then i can’t gauge if the kids have got an approximately equal ‘haul’.

How the hell do you know in January what someone will want in December unless you're buying generic, meaningless presents?

Timeisavirtue · 11/11/2021 22:09

Used to when they were younger and went to sleep quicker, now they are older and take longer to sleep defo not...

I wish wrapping only took an hour. With 2 dc and 2dsc and dp to wrap for its def more than an hour job.

Plus wrapping is very tedious and boring, I wish I found it fun, sometimes I like the idea I do two then I'm bored.

Presents for extended family have to be wrapped and ready by Dec 1st ready to go under the tree.

maddy68 · 11/11/2021 22:09

Because I'm always last minute with presents and it's fun to do Xmas Eve

mnahmnah · 11/11/2021 22:10

If i wrap the DC presents, then have to stuff them back into their hiding places, the paper will split. It’s also nice for the festive spirit. I wrap all others in advance to put under the tree.

Igneo · 11/11/2021 22:12

I sympathise with this view. IMO older people can do this. Not that their presents are meaningless, just that sometimes less thought has to go in... it’s fine if aunty gives you socks/ subscription every year. But not the parents of young children.

AdoraBell · 11/11/2021 22:12

It sounds too stressful for me. I’ve always wrapped presents way before.

Its possible to start in Jan easily. I can't say I have every started that early but after Easter I will start picking up the teen dc perfume/aftershave, fancy socks (what's Christmas without socks) etc.

I will wait until closet for clothing g items because you never know ow what's going to be in fashion.

With young children it may be harder so early as toy tastes change so quickly.

kateg27 · 11/11/2021 22:15

We do absolutely nothing Christmas related until December
