Gifts that give to charity

DeathWinsAGolfish · 11/11/2021 15:48

I'm looking for gifts that give part of their profits or a donation to good causes.

I have already bought Advent of Change advent calendar and a room with Shelter, but would like some other ideas, where the recipient receives a gift knowing that there will be a charitable donation on their behalf too.

Harry Specters chocolates, don’t give to charity as such but they employ people with autism www.harryschocs.co.uk/

I saw someone else mention this on MN a while back and thought it was a fantastic idea: lendwithcare.org/

So the charity makes small business loans to people in developing countries - you buy a gift card, and the recipient can choose which business(es) to invest it in. When the loan has been paid back, the reipient of your gift gets to choose where the money goes again, and the cycle continues.

I think it would be a great charity gift, as the recipient gets to be actively involved, rather than just get a picture of a goat or whatever.

Helping you give dignity to children in care
Why children in care?

There are over 90,000 children in care in the UK and Ireland with one child entering the care system every 15 minutes. Most transport their worldly belongings in plastic bin bags or plastic shopping bags, losing their dignity in the process.
The Solution

We believe that no child should carry their life in a bin bag or plastic shopping bag. Life Goes Inside™

That’s why we created Madlug.

We operate under a ‘buy one, give one’ model, which means that with every Madlug bag you purchase, a pack-away travel bag will be given to a child in care.

I do lend with care, every now and then I top up another £5 and do another loan, but obviously you can wait to get all the £15 back and restart then.

Thank you, so many great ideas. Smile
We've used madlug before and can recommend their lunch bags too, it's such a sad statistic of one child into care every 15 minutes, with a black bag of belongings. Sad

Orders made, thank you.

If there are any others out there I'd love to hear about them.

Emma Bridgewater are doing charity mugs for Shelter this year, my adult DC will get money or a voucher so I am putting that in the mugs with some Kit Kat’s which will avoid buying heavily packaged chocolates.

livingthegoodlife · 11/11/2021 20:30

I can recommend this charity, I've ordered lots of times and the products are lovely and high quality. Please read about the work they do with adults with complex neuro diverse and physical needs.

I buy my parents a weekly raffle ticket into their local Air Ambulance draw (previously their local Hospice draw). For both, the recipient gets a cuddly toy and a weekly entry into their raffle. My parents have won twice (from memory, £700 and £50) so they enjoy the anticipation as they don't want stuff.
Oxfam shops also seem to stock a fair number of Fair Trade products.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 11/11/2021 22:18

Arthouse have some amazing artwork, I'm suddenly enjoying Christmas shopping with all of these amazing companies, thank you for your suggestions.

I'm another fan of Lendwithcare.

I gave my teen DD a voucher for her birthday and she's loved looking at all of the entrepreneurs, deciding which to make a loan to and then receiving the repayments to reinvest.

It's given her several life lessons while giving the entrepreneur the investment they need for their business.

WWF have an online shop and all product are sustainably sourced.

Not quite the same but Trend Tomic do amazing cork earrings and a tree is planted for every purchase.

RenardeRenarde · 09/12/2021 10:49

barekind.co.uk/

Barekind do lovely ladies and children’s bamboo socks - a percentage of the sale goes to a charity that supports the animal on the socks (including some small UK charities like wildlife rescues)
