I want to do it now!
But I know it’s too early… when can I?!?

Ooh, I love seeing an autumn wreath. Every year I think I'll get one, then never do!

The earliest we've done it is the beginning of December. Now the DCs are a bit older we wait till 2 weeks before Christmas day to decorate.

Saying that, I love seeing them around from now. It's great driving along and a squeal comes from the back seat when they've spotted a decorated house.

We like to wait to increase the anticipation and excitement but you guys who do it early bring a bit of joy to me every day through winter 🎅

Advent Sunday for wreaths and so on. Tree between the 21st and 23rd of December.

Whenever you like! We saw a front door with a big bow and bauble on it this morning on the school run. I put my wreath on my door on the 1st December.

mamakoukla · 12/11/2021 00:03

After Remembrance Day. Personally, start of Advent or 1 December

I normally do just this, but this year I have an Autumn wreath on my door, in memory of a family member, and will change it to a Christmas one in a few weeks.
BSideBaby · 12/11/2021 00:32

Make an autumn wreath for now and stick a couple of sprigs of holly in it mid-December?

DaisyWaldron · 12/11/2021 00:47

1st Sunday of Advent, which I'm fairly sure is on the 28th November this year.

Faevern · 12/11/2021 06:59

Do you mean a remembrance wreath? It's not too early.

Hadjab · 12/11/2021 07:02

Whenever you like!

Rattysparklebum · 12/11/2021 08:20

Two of my neighbours are proudly displaying their outdoor Christmas lights already Confused so I guess someone has to be first!

Jumpalicious · 12/11/2021 08:21

Advent on.

Frymetothemoon · 12/11/2021 08:28

Friday/Saturday night around the first of December here

TheBullfinch · 12/11/2021 08:41

I put mine up two weeks before Christmas and no sooner, otherwise it's limp by Boxing Day.

BettyfromBristol · 12/11/2021 08:57

I agree with OneMoreForExtra but each to their own etc etc. Ours will go up mid December once we have foraged for holly, ivy and pine cones. Any earlier and it will be wilted and tired by Christmas. Not an issue for an artificial one though.

Our outdoor lights went up last Saturday, purely because that's when the guys putting them up could do it. I have an "if they're up, they're on" policy and, because the guys putting them up start in one street and work their way through the estate, our street is now lit up 🤣

cattermolek · 12/11/2021 09:47

I would love to put ours up earlier but I can't bring myself to do it before 1st December!

amusedbush · 12/11/2021 10:36

I like to put my Christmas stuff up on the last weekend of November so I can enjoy it all of December.

ffloogalBoom · 12/11/2021 10:39

How do you guys attach your door wreaths? Every year no matter what fixings I use, the wreath will rattle and bang on the front door and we had a new door this year so want to avoid damage.
Can't believe how much a new front door costs these days but anyway, DH is forbidding me from putting a wreath up but if I can show him it's secure and won't bash the door in the wind then it will be fine! FYI I tend to use the suction ones and secure at the top with a thick ribbon which loop over the top of the door and stick on the inside. Our wreath is pretty heavy though, maybe that's the issue Blush

ComDummings · 12/11/2021 10:50

@ffloogalBoom I use a wreath hook like this

ffloogalBoom · 12/11/2021 11:03

Thanks @ComDummings
I can't use one of those as our front door close with an airtight seal. What type of front door do you have?

ComDummings · 12/11/2021 11:13

Aah I see, ours is a wooden painted one so it’s tight but not airtight so it works well for us. I think Command make wreath hooks which look quite good and are meant not to leave a residue or anything but I’m not sure if it will stop the banging for you. Could you tie ribbon to the bottom of the wreath and hook it under the bottom of the door the same as you do to the top? Not sure if it would look weird though Grin

Kitkat151 · 12/11/2021 11:15

December 1st

Rainbowheart1 · 12/11/2021 11:17

Do it now if it will make you happy.

Mines up, I really don’t care what the neighbours think either

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/11/2021 11:24

That's easy for me. In the US, it's an unwritten rule to wait until after Thanksgiving to put up Christmas decorations in your house. This year that is November 25th.

My mum uses thin wire, which she attaches to top of the wreath, over the top of the door, down the door back out through letterbox. She attaches the wire to bottom of the wreath. Wire is thin enough not to effect door/letterbox closure and because it’s attached both top and bottom doesn’t blow/ move in the wind!

She can’t have a wreath hook either!
