Dd is 16 & really into looking up stuf on line & making things like ramen, Chinese baked chicken etc & I thought as one gift for her I could get her a recipe book & maybe some other bits - harder to get ingredients & I'm thinking of a rice cooker. She's always saying how she wishes we had one.

Dh is a bit Hmm but I think all together- a rice cooker, a wok, recipe book it would make a great element of her presents?

Am I mad?

Sounds great! I have the Wagamama cookbook and it’s great for ramen etc although I’m not sure how authentic.

No recommendations, but you're not mad - it sounds great 😊

Hetty McKinnon (To Asia, With Love), Fuschia Dunlop, classic Ken Hom and Ching-He Huang are good writers for SE Asian (particularly Chinese) food.

You could also include a bamboo steamer, chopsticks and/or a gift voucher / home-made IOU to go buy fun and unusual ingredients at a Asian food store. Sounds like a great gift idea OP!

East by Meera Sodha is fab. Vegan and vegetarian recipes.

The Rangoon Sisters by Amy and Emily Chung is very straightforward Burmese recipes

Fire Islands by Eleanor Ford for Indonesian recipes

You might want to include a voucher for Sous Chef in there so the hard to find ingredients are a bit more getable. If you're in a big city it's not such an issue of course.

Sounds fine, we're doing similar for 14yo DD, a ramen recipe book and set of the proper big bowls, flat spoons, chopsticks etc. This is the book we've got www.amazon.co.uk/Lets-Make-Ramen-Comic-Cookbook/dp/0399581995?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
