Favourite Switch games for 8 year olds

My DS(8) got a switch lite for his birthday and is currently enjoying mario kart.

I'm looking to get him a new game for Christmas, he doesn't have much patience for anything too complicated (and none of us can work out minecraft!!)

Please can anyone advise on popular games if you have children of a similar age which is pretty easy to get to grips with?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that couldn't figure out minecraft!

My 7 year old really likes Pokemon Shield/sword etc and seems to have mostly figured it all out himself.

If he is into soccer (like my 8 year old) then FIFA 22 would be a good one to get.

Mario Odyssey is brilliant, one of the best games on the switch. I'm sure I saw a deal for it on Hot Uk Deals the other day maybe for £35.

It has an assist mode which helps when you start but you'll soon have that off with an 8 year old.

Otherwise in our house it's all Minecraft and Pokemon Shield.

Animal crossing is a classic. All my DC love it and it has really lasted

My 8 year old is minecraft mad but we do play Lego Harry Potter, Mario Party and Mario3D together which are great. I'm.also going to get him Just Dance for Xmas.

My six year old loves Fifa, Pokemon Shield and Animal Crossing

Agree Pokémon Sword/Sheild are good.

Any Mario game, Luigis Mansion, Yoshis crafted world and Pikmin are all favourites here. If you want to have a game to play as a family the Mario party games are fun. We've been in for ten days with Covid and ordered the new one for something to do and its been great.

Any suggestions which one is best? Pokémon Sword or Shield? My 7 year old has asked for the pokemon game for Christmas for the switch but has never shown any interest in pokemon before. Thanks

@yoshiblue what happens in Marion odyssey, as in what sort of game is it please?

@Mallowmarshmallow Its a first person platform game, where you have to complete levels, collect items, beat bosses. End story to save Princess Peach. Its 3D rather than 2D, the levels are absolutely gorgeous and its very open world, so you can continue to replay to collect extra things.

@Moana123 Sword and Shield a variants of the same game. Exactly the same game except they have a few different pokemon in them. Very little difference, just pick if she likes red or blue to be honest!

Try Mario Odyssey. Never met an 8 year old who didn't like Mario, and he already likes Mario Kart so knows the characters.
