DD is 8. She is very much looking forward to the elf coming again this year. It'll be year 4 or 5 - I cant remember.

When does it stop?
Any ideas for getting rid of the little Fecker?

Just say you're not doing it this year? And get an exciting advent calendar instead?

rrhuth · 07/11/2021 06:19

Sorry, but either you a) continue until they grow out of it or b) you tell her straight and disappoint her.

You can't moan about your DD and the elf, it was your choice!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 07/11/2021 06:19

We got an elf but I told the kids it had turned lazy and it didn’t move.
You just have to not do it. They may whinge for a couple days but they’ll get over it.
Or on the first or second day ‘hide’ it so we’ll it can’t be found.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/11/2021 06:19

he will have to isolate for the first two weeks due to Covid restrictions.....

Welcometothejingles · 07/11/2021 06:25

I've never understood the elf as we didn't have it growing up and it creeped me out. I'd swear its eyes followed you round the room.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/11/2021 06:34

I never did it. Because snitches get stitches.

But if you wanted to, you only have maybe two years left. As Yoda would say, 'do or do not do'.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 07/11/2021 06:39

Tell her she was so good this year, Santa had to send it to watch another child who was naughty, to help them remember to be good as well.

rrhuth · 07/11/2021 06:40

All this fucking 'good' 'naughty' talk, feel sorry for these poor kids.

DockOTheBay · 07/11/2021 06:44

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake

If she wants the elf to come surely this would just encourage her to be naughty foe the next few weeks.

OP just tell her the elf isn't coming this year but instead you're doing XYZ less onerous task.

ChristmasGrogu · 07/11/2021 06:45

Tell her the kindness elves are coming instead

Santastuckincustoms · 07/11/2021 06:49

I'd say there's been industrial action at the North pole. That combined with visa issues over brexit and covid means that the elf system has had to pivot to a remote model for 2021 onwards. This means that FC will be monitoring poor behaviour via a random audit of peeking down the chimney/Alexa/parental email.

IggyAce · 07/11/2021 06:51

My kids know and they still request the elf, I’m happy because they love finding him each morning. I must admit I don’t really do hard work set ups.
If I was you I’d stuck it up as you probably only have a year or 2 of the full magic of Christmas.

Sally872 · 07/11/2021 06:51

Our elf comes 2 weeks before Christmas rather than Dec 1st.

Littlemisspissypants · 07/11/2021 06:58

We have one of these

We don't have kids, it was up in the corner of the living room when we bought the house this summer and none of us are tall enough to get it down. One assumes it doesn't have to move like the elf...

Blankiefan · 07/11/2021 08:21

Various points hitting home here. We DID do it to ourselves and I guess there will only be a couple more years of magic so may have to suck it up.

Glad you've solved it OP.

This is too good not to quote though isn't it? Grin

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/11/2021 09:06

I haven’t done this myself, but I recall one idea about the DC receiving a special letter from FC about the elf’s retirement after X years of service. On their retirement the elf is granted a Christmas wish and their Christmas wish is to live in your house as a ‘real toy’. That way the kids still get the elf but it’s without the nightly nonsense for the parents!

Mybalconyiscracking · 07/11/2021 09:15

Just behead it and leave it on the floor in a puddle of blood one morning, tell her Rudolph kicked it to death?

This is better than my suggestion
EvilPea · 07/11/2021 10:05

We were early adopters to the elf, we have had ten + years of him.

Mine are secondary school and it’s still happening, it’s the bit they enjoy at Christmas the most.

This is hilarious.
ShitUsername · 07/11/2021 10:41

Last year I couldn’t be arsed so took a photo of the elves masked up with a note saying one of them had tested positive for the ‘rona so unfortunately they had to self isolate in the North Pole for 14 days. Didn’t get rid of the fuckers entirely but at least we only had to do it for 10 days and not the whole bastarding month. Like the pp’s idea of Rudolph killing them off Grin

yoshiblue · 07/11/2021 16:25

I've passed it onto my DH to deal with....first year he thought it was fun, he now hates it 🤣

I would think once she knows there's no santa? Which could be pretty soon

Nah.

It's really good. But the use of the word 'pivot' clinches it for you Star
