When does everyone start eating the Xmas food?

I usually start opening the chocolates, Christmassy goodies etc, when DC finish school for Xmas holidays. BUT, it means weeks of trying to resist temptation and we always end up with loads of it left by January.

When does everyone start tucking into theirs?

I like the run up to Xmas more than the day, so I buy stuff to eat now.

livingthegoodlife · 06/11/2021 07:37

1st Dec here. We start eating the Xmas cake then & Mince pies.

Tins of quality street probably school hols.

Xmasfairy86 · 06/11/2021 07:38

I opened the twiglets yesterday 🙈
Couldn’t resist. I have tins of roses and quality streets arriving on today’s shop. They’ll need replacing at least once before December no doubt 🤣🤣

Autumn101 · 06/11/2021 07:40

We aim for 1st December but I don’t think the quality street will be able to be resisted for much longer 😂

ChurchlightJane · 06/11/2021 07:42

We will have mulled wine, mince pies etc when at Christmas events but at home the food is started Christmas Eve after the veg is done.

0verth1inker · 06/11/2021 07:44

I bought my first bottle of mulled wine yesterday. For me a deer bonfire night it’s a slippery slope to Christmas and picky teas of baked Camembert/pigs in blankets once a week is completely allowed from now!

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 06/11/2021 07:46

Once I’ve lost the weight I need to for health reasons - so probably not this year

ApplePippa · 06/11/2021 07:46

Mince pies and lebkuchen are eaten for weekend puddings from Dec 1. Everything else gets saved until Christmas Eve, after which its fair game!

Nc123 · 06/11/2021 08:06

ChristmasEve here

DelphiniumBlue · 06/11/2021 08:10

Oh dear, we've cracked open the port and had mince pies already, and it's only just November.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 06/11/2021 08:19

Ever since Aldi started selling the florentine's. I'm replacing a box a week

EssexLioness · 06/11/2021 08:21

Christmas Eve

AnnaMagnani · 06/11/2021 08:23

When Lidl starts stocking the biscuits which was a few weeks ago.

However beyond a few biscuits, not until Christmas Eve. The leftovers then last months.

I'm dieting this year so planning on cutting back.

IggyAce · 06/11/2021 08:25

Probably once the Christmas tree is up. I’m currently negotiating that with teen dd. She wants it up mid November, me not til the 1st December, think we have settled on 26th November as she has a pd day.

crossstitchingnana · 06/11/2021 08:28

The odd mince pie now and then but everything else is kept until Christmas Eve.

crimsonlake · 06/11/2021 09:54

Christmas Eve here as well.

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 06/11/2021 10:05

1st Dec here. Have to start early or we have too many treats left over in the new year when I start my diet after eating too much stuff over ChristmasBlush

Welcometothejingles · 06/11/2021 10:08

I'm not buying any treats this year because we end up getting loads of food gifts that we're still eating at Easter! So we'll eat the gifts instead of buying it ourselves & we'll donate some to the food bank.

If you get too much, please donate a few packets to the Foodbank to save your waistlines!

Bluntness100 · 06/11/2021 10:11

Might have some mince pies in close to Xmas, but that’s about it. Xmas food for us is really Xmas eve day and left overs after, say Boxing Day.

KurtWilde · 06/11/2021 10:11

I like to enjoy the run up to it so as soon as the tree goes up, the treats are fair game Grin

FiloFaxx · 06/11/2021 10:12

Usually from 1st December but early December it's just when we're doing something Christmassy like watching a film, decorating the tree etc. Then the week leading to Christmas usually the tin of Roses/Quality street is allowed out as and when we want one 😂🎅

Lovemusic33 · 06/11/2021 11:37

We start early because by Boxing Day I’m usually in diet mode and want it all gone 🤣, we don’t buy much food as the kids usually get given loads of chocolate, we just have a tin of sweets on the coffee table to nibble on and maybe some twiglets or nuts. Mince pies can be eaten anytime from November 🤣

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 06/11/2021 11:41

Neighbour keeps bringing us chocolates, like tins of roses. I've got loads of treats for Xmas boxes for us and PILs and so far due to the tins from neighbour I've resisted going through the treats. The white french fancies however are a totally different matter Grin

Iseeyoulookingatme · 06/11/2021 14:10

I'm just scoffing some quality streets while reading this thread. I normally gorge myself on mince pies from October onwards. I save the party food and biscuits till the start of the Christmas holidays and I normally have tons left over till Easter.

viques · 06/11/2021 14:17

In emergencies I have been known to eat all the chocolate coins before CD, but have usually replaced them. Stollen and panettone have to be eaten and replaced regularly because they have such a very short season, like English asparagus, so need to be repeatedly enjoyed while they are available .
