When does everyone start eating the Xmas food?

I usually start opening the chocolates, Christmassy goodies etc, when DC finish school for Xmas holidays. BUT, it means weeks of trying to resist temptation and we always end up with loads of it left by January.

When does everyone start tucking into theirs?

In theory, first weekend in December when the tree goes up. In practice anytime from now!

TerrifiedandWorried · 06/11/2021 14:24

The real question is, did we stop?

starfishmummy · 06/11/2021 14:24

Had a mince pie today. Its a bit earlybreally but dh got them (and he started on them yesterday).

RestingStitchFace · 06/11/2021 14:27

I am absolutely not thinking about the packet of Percy Pigs in my son's (already stuffed) stocking - currently in the bottom of my wardrobe.

Nope, not thinking about biting Perc's yummy little ears off

Not at all

Am totally fine. Confused

NadiaVulvokov · 06/11/2021 14:32

Well, I had a candy cane the other day.

Basically a wee smattering of the real favourites as they appear in the shops/cafes. For me that’s a candy cane or a gingerbread latte, STBXH that
was mince pie or a slice of Christmas cake. Thank he things you’re excited to see.

But really, the weekend before or the week of Christmas, depending when Xmas falls. Need something to keep you going those last few days.

Whilst lighting the candle for 1st of Advent - so 28 November this year!

Gingernaut · 06/11/2021 14:41

When no one's watching

NotAnotherPushyMum · 06/11/2021 14:46

As soon as it appears in the shops!

SpideySenseTingles · 06/11/2021 14:49

December 1st for most things but there are these super moreish Jacob's cracker crisps that come out for Christmas and they are just so delicious that once they hit the shops I buy a couple of tubs each week so we eat them all through from November to February...they have become my big Christmas food weakness

Liverbird77 · 06/11/2021 14:55

Christmas Eve onwards. We have our Christmas dinner that evening and then all bets are off until the beginning of January!

Sundancerintherain · 06/11/2021 15:29

Xmas eve, apart from mince pies.
Mince pies are fair game from the second they are in the house.

goose1964 · 06/11/2021 17:23

The first, although we are taste testing some stuff. We're currently trying Tesco pretzel stars ,cinnamon flavour. They're nice but the taste is very subtle.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 06/11/2021 17:32

Christmas Eve here, then it's non stop eating until the 2nd January. Then diet time to lose the weight lol

lazylinguist · 06/11/2021 17:46

We don't really do Christmas snacks much tbh. Some things I don't really consider Christmassy anyway - especially chocolates, sweets, twiglets etc which are available all year round! We might have the odd stollen bite or mince pie from Mid-december, but nothing else until a few days before Christmas.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/11/2021 17:50

Usually mid December. However, I have booked a Christmas Hamper donation slot at the local Foodbank and have started shopping for that. Today's food order included a Festive Yule Log for the hamper but the best before date is next week! So it can't go , which means dh will probably eat it imminently as ds and I don't like cake.

shinynewapple21 · 06/11/2021 17:52

As soon as I've bought it! Hence I don't buy too early .

shinynewapple21 · 06/11/2021 17:55

@viques that's a good way of looking at it - the season for stollen is short so I shouldn't feel so guilty about the number of times I have to replace it !

JurassicShay · 06/11/2021 18:13

Xmas Eve all the food gets put on the kitchen side to be eaten as and when.

Some things will have to be replaced for then as I would have gotten them out of the hiding place & already shared them out like the tin of twiglets & carton of quality street we've already eaten

I have lots of snacks coming with the shopping on Monday & specifically brought more pretzel stars than we need for Xmas Grin

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 06/11/2021 18:38

1st December starting at breakfast!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 06/11/2021 18:40

No Christmas food till Christmas Eve for me!

tanqueray10 · 06/11/2021 18:40

Usually now but some incredibly inconsiderate friends are getting married in early January so need to keep the eating under control to fit in my wedding outfit!! 🤣

lunar1 · 06/11/2021 18:44

I've eaten three bags of Cadbury snowballs 😬

We officially start on the evening of the last day of school!

TuftyMarmoset · 06/11/2021 19:53

Normally once I go on leave for Christmas - I usually take around 2 weeks off, planning to go off from the 22nd this year.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 06/11/2021 19:55

Christmas Eve

AdaColeman · 06/11/2021 20:13

Well, I think that it’s important to consumer test many of the Christmas goodies, to make sure they are up to my high standards. This is especially true of any item with that irresistible “New” or “Special Edition “ label.
Think how upsetting it would be to have saved everything up for Christmas Day, only to discover that you didn’t enjoy your treats!
