What are you buying for your 6 year old boys?

I'm a bit stuck on idea for what to ask relatives to get our 6 year old. He loves Lego and drawing, and we are getting him a couple of Lego sets, but beyond that, I'm a bit stuck. We have an older son, so we have loads of generic Lego, Snap Circuits etc, and his brother is getting Gravitrax. He also has a bike and scooter. We also have too much Playmobil!

TIA

I always ask for books- to read to him or for him to read. It often results in some good ones I’ve never heard of.

PhiOmicron · 02/11/2021 13:31

A voucher for your local cinema, or something like a simple felt sewing kit, or rock painting kit? People don't get craft stuff for boys so much, and they often really enjoy it?

Equimum · 02/11/2021 13:35

That's so true PhiOmicron. Will definitely ask for some crafting bits - he loves it!

Good call MinnieMountain. We always buy lots of books, but family don't, so maybe a prompt will lead to some good ones. Thanks.

We have been up since 3.45 Shock

(Took DC to the Fireworks last night and DS2 fell asleep really early in the pushchair).

Hoping he'll have a long nap while DS1 is at school so I can too.

Camomila · 04/11/2021 06:12

What about Hama beads? Both my boys love these. Agree craft stuff often gets overlooked for boys but mine love it.

For Christmas we are getting some super things (vehicles), a fleecy onesie for wearing to swimming lessons , more Lego and a watch with games etc.

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/11/2021 11:45

What about a children's how to draw book?

Other things arty 6-7 year old I know have liked

Usbourne paper aeroplanes book - each page rips out to make a different kid of paper aeroplane following the folds

Sticker by numbers book

Fimo modelling clay - or could start with plasticine kit

ClaireandTed · 05/11/2021 11:56

My son loves all the Treasure X stuff especially the King's gold treasure tomb although I think that particular one is rare and expensive now. It's a sort of game/adventure where you follow various steps to reveal the gold, and then once complete you can re-enact it over and over again. This year we are getting him the treasure X Monster Gold mega monster lab from Argos. He also absolutely loves Marvel masher figures but again, they are all more expensive now than they used to be unfortunately. We used to buy lots of them second hand from eBay for about £10 each, they all mix and match together.

Ooh also Skylanders - he might like those figures. eBay is a great place for them too. We don't have the actual computer game just the figures and a book about them and my son loves them.

I recently bought my 6 year old a national geographic rocks and fossils kit for his birthday which went down a treat. It has actual fossils and meteorite in it too. There are also kits with a tumbler or geode cracking. We bought a packet of orbeez (?) but non-branded ones and he really enjoyed messing with those for a while. He'd seen them on youtube (unfortunately introduced to it by his teenage brother and addicted to youtubers and gamers already Sad And some scratch art paper with stencils. We all love playing games so we bought him sleeping queens card game. Very easy and simple for a 6 year old.

For Christmas I'm going to buy him a bath bomb making kit, i-spy nature type books and books to read alone, as well as other things you've said your child already owns.

Supertree · 05/11/2021 15:07

Oh, another thing he enjoys playing with is a den making kit. It's just rigid plastic tubes with balls which are covered in holes at various angles so you can build quite strong 3D structures. He doesn't bother making dens with them most of the time, just creates whatever he fancies.

Lollipoplion · 06/11/2021 17:55

My 6 year old loves an explorer kit he got for his birthday.
