Hi,
I’m an adult with no kids but I’ve been looking at some of my old books during a trip home. I had a few hard back beautiful books full of illustrations like the Winnie the Pooh collection and a few other ‘classics’ too.

Are there any Christmas books that exist like this? I was hoping for a hard back that has some beautiful artwork. I will read it and look at the pictures but also to have it out on the bookshelf as
a decoration almost. It probably sounds really daft but does anyone know of a book that would be suitable?

I’ve checked Waterstones and the books that looked very pretty all seemed to have big music boxes in them that played a tune and I’d prefer if they didn’t.

Thank you to anyone that can help

I've seen a few lovely editions of Dylan Thomas' 'A Child's Christmas in Wales '. There's one with illustrations by Edward Ardizzone.

One I bought for Gdcs when smaller was Room For A Little One.

It’s basically the nativity, but focused on the animals in the stable - absolutely beautiful full page, full colour, realistic illustrations, not the stylised ones which are much more common in children’s books.

Tom and Lucy's Christmas by Shirley Hughes. So nostalgic it makes me cry. Also Jane Reay's Twelve Days of Christmas and Jan Pienkowski's nativity book.

Alfie’s Christmas
Tom and Lucy’s Christmas
Both very similar with beautiful illustrations. My ds is nearly 13 but we still read both of those every Christmas Eve, it’s our tradition.

Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder is lovely.

FreezerBird · 31/10/2021 11:25

Yes to Jan Pienkowski's The First Christmas.

Beautifully, beautifully illustrated and the text is the King James Bible translation of the nativity story.

The Christmas Imaginarium shop does a series of books that would fit the bill - I can't remember what they are called but something to do with the real life of Father Christmas

FoggySpecs · 31/10/2021 16:22

Raymond Briggs Father Christmas and The Holly and The Ivy.

The Night Before Christmas, illustrated by Arthur Rackham, or One Christmas Wish by Katherine Rundell. A Child's Christmas in Wales as mentioned above is my absolute favourite Christmas book, I read it every year on Christmas night. It's just wonderful.

We have the hardback rather than boardbook version of this and I love it.

Christmas on Exeter Street.. beautiful book

There was a nice version of The Nutcracker out a few years ago in a hard cover. I was considering buying it for me.

Robert Sabuda does a couple of Christmas pop up books that are just beautiful. They are amazon and really are so impressive. x

Jan Brett’s Christmas treasury is fabulous. I bought one for my son for his 1st Christmas and bought two more for my two nieces on their 1st Christmas’. Hopefully it’s something they can keep forever. My son loves to bring it out at Christmas time. It’s quite large and heavy but worth it for the beautiful illustrations.

I have A Christmas Carol illustrated by Robert Ingpen, it’s is utterly wonderful.

Also agree with The Christmas Imaginarium books. I have yet to purchase them but I did subscribe to the monthly Christmas magazine and even they are brilliant.
I may or may not have ordered myself a personalised letter from Santa from there at 29 years old because it was so beautiful Grin
