We have stopped buying presents for extended family - group decision a few years ago that everyone is fine with - and instead we all buy a little 'table present' for about £5.

I'm a bit out of touch for girls of this age so would welcome ideas please.

I was thinking something from Lush for the 11 year old ?? That's if I can hold my breath for long enough while I go in and make the purchase.....

What's a table present?

Catawaul · 31/10/2021 09:01

So you've stopped buying presents but still have to buy a present?

BlueFlavour · 31/10/2021 09:04

Nice stationery? Smiggle or Paperchase have some lovely things. Lush is a good idea. Little plant in a funky plant pot? String of fairy lights?
S’mores kit? Friendship bracelet, the ones with a charm on a piece of thread.

BlueFlavour · 31/10/2021 09:06

I think it’s a great idea. A little something. But still exciting to open, and giving a sense of occasion.

IpanemaPeaHen · 31/10/2021 09:07

A set of nice pens (smelly ones) from hobby craft plus colouring books for older girls.

IpanemaPeaHen · 31/10/2021 09:10

Just to add, I think my dds would have preferred something they can enjoy on the day rather than soaps at that age.

Sherrystrull · 31/10/2021 09:13

I think something they can instantly use at the table e.g a puzzle book with a cool pencil.

purplesequins · 31/10/2021 09:17

nice idea
yes to stationary - a pack of colourful gel pens and some letter paper?
a bath bomb?
fancy hair clips/hair bands?
a frisbee? ball game set?

HelloDulling · 31/10/2021 09:20

Bracelet-making kit
Nice pens
Lush Snow Fairy shower stuff

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 31/10/2021 09:23

I think they're plasticky shite, but my 11yo loves a fidget/popper thing. yy to something from Lush though. Or anything from Kenji.

spongedog · 31/10/2021 09:37

Little purses -cath kidson or similar? Or M&S have make up bags with initials?

vipersputpaidtomylastusername · 31/10/2021 09:38

Thanks for suggestions - some are definitely ideas that are new to me so many thanks!

@IpanemaPeaHen noted re your idea for non smellies and maybe to use / play with straight away. Thank you.
@BlueFlavour - thanks for your suggestions but more so for your second post which articulates perfectly why we do what we do. My heart sank at the first couple of posts. How awful to be permanently on the defensive and to look for the negative in everything....

Right I'm off to Google fidget poppers and Kenji.....Confused

Fidget Toys for the 8 year old ~ you could get a few cheaply off Shein.

CrackerGal · 31/10/2021 10:06

Just to add popits & squishies are super popular rn probably both ages would enjoy. You should be able to buy locally, but they're very cheap from shein & would take around 2 weeks to arrive.
Good luck I think its a lovely idea!

Bimblybomeyelash · 31/10/2021 10:08

We do table presents too! We have a mixture of different people on the day, and not everyone buys for everyone else. Having a small table present for everyone makes sure that everyone is included.

The children at our table are getting Lego dot bracelets or bag tags.

GreenClock · 31/10/2021 10:22

Assuming they have the right kind of hair for it, how about hair accessories or purses from somewhere like Claire’s or Accessorize? The latter has 20% off online currently.

Or something from Hotel Chocolat (I like the Portly Penguins box) if they’re sweet-toothed?

More great ideas. Thank you all!

Nothing negative about my post @vipersputpaidtomylastusername - I'm just asking what a table present is as I still don't know!

IpanemaPeaHen · 31/10/2021 16:13

You’re welcome @vipersputpaidtomylastusername happy shopping Smile

A small present they give out while seated at the dinner table.
WeAreTheHeroes · 31/10/2021 20:55

Thank you @BingBongToTheMoon

Snowdropsandbluebells · 31/10/2021 21:03

I love that idea.
Last year I got a remote control poop for about that amount of money. Honestly it was so funny.
Something jokey like that could work (a singing toy type of thing either)

Or
Scratch art
Needle felt activity
Foam / air dry clay type of thing
Pretty keyring for their school bag with their initial

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 31/10/2021 21:07

My DC 7 & 10 both love Lush items.

I would avoid pens and stationary. If it’s anything like this household we are constantly gifted pens, notebooks etc. we’re drowning in them.

Just a regular reading book would be welcomed by my two. They can then read it when they get bored at the table.

PotteringAlong · 31/10/2021 21:12

or personalised lip balm?
