Aside from wanting to show off my Crimbo name (I know it's pants but it took me ages to think of something!), this is a serious question as I am a bit of a technology-challenged type.

DH and I have agreed we both want an Ipod for crimbo so will get each other one. Now, he's great at doing all the online research etc but I am shit/have no patience (delete as appropriate) so was wondering

a) any recommendations?

b) any good online/RL shops to get it from?

Apparently the Ipod classic is good? Neither of us want anything fancy, just something that can store loads of music (between us we've got about 1,000 cds).

Thanks!

If you are looking for someone knowledgeable then John Lewis are always good for giving answers to stupid questions.
As for the actual iPod, it really depends on lifestyle, amount of music you listen to, whether you really need to video function etc.
I have the classic (basically the Video renamed!)
I went for it because of the amount of GB I needed.
I'm currently on 1000 songs, 120 ish videos and 300 photos. And that only takes up about 10Gbs of space!
Any more questions? Feel free to ask, I love my iPod!

Wow, thanks!!

I don't personally care about videos, but I do want loads of space for songs, so having followed those links, I'm now leaning towards the Classic anyway, purely for the amount of room it's got on it.

Can I ask, about how often do you have to change/recharge the batteries?

Depending on how often/long you listen to it I'd say about every 3 days or so,
I usually listen to mine for an hour or so a day when walking anywhere and before I go to sleep so I only recharge very 3/4 days and that's if I run the battery almost flat. Watching videos/flicking through photos will drain the battery a lot faster because of the light.
Tha classic really is a better choice if you need a lot of space. The price you pay for an 8gb Nano is only about £30 less than an 80gb Classic!

Ooh, ta PFE - we bit the bullet late last night and ordered ourselves ones from Amazon (ta for the link, Marne) as they were cheapest on Pricerunner. His is black, mine's silver . Apparently they will be delivered before Christmas...

Dead excited now - just have to find several hundred hours of spare time to upload the record collection...
