Halloween Parties for 1-3 year olds

I couldn't find a Halloween section so didn't know where else to post.

Basically we have about 7 children between the ages of 1&3 in our immediate family (our children and nephews and nieces) and I absolutely love Halloween but still think they're too young to go trick or treating, but I'd love to do something with/ for them.

Has anyone ever done a little party for such young children, if so any ideas would be great!

Aha! There is a brilliant mumsnet video which features bananas on a stick being turned into ghosts. I think that would be great.

There are also some excellent Halloween recipes on the Telegraph site, I'm planning some brownies with cherry jam oozing out (might be too much sugar for the littlies though?)

Also you could do special Halloween juice drinks if you fancy it?

Sausage "fingers"?

Have "Monster Mash" type playlist?

That game where you hang doughnuts on a string and they have to put their hands behind their back and take bites.

Wrap each other up in toilet roll to make mummies.

Dunking for apples- smaller apples for smaller jaws!

Dance along to YouTube age-appropriate spooky songs eg

evil cackle mwahahaha

Fallagain · 24/10/2021 18:22

Pass the parcel. Dance to monster mash.

twinmum86 · 24/10/2021 18:29

Playdoh faces on pumpkins! Waaaaay easier than carving them!

Angel2702 · 24/10/2021 18:32

Pin the nose on the witch, pass the parcel pumpkin, pumpkin piñata are all things we’ve done.

When mine were that age we made Halloween biscuits (I had a spider cookie cutter) and decorated them with icing and sprinkles (2/3 year olds can help with rolling and cutting dough but for a party I'd make the biscuits and advance and just get them to decorate as otherwise it'll take too long). I also made gingerbread men and decorated them to look like skeletons (ish!).

Pumpkin faces to decorate (either use small pumpkins or cut out some pumpkin shapes on orange card / sugar paper with an assortment of cut out eyes / mouths to go with).

Do some harvest themed crafts.

Make shakers out of small juice bottles and orange lentils, decorate with stickers.

Colouring

Musical statues to "Halloween" music like Monster Mash or Scooby Doo

EllieSattler · 25/10/2021 07:16

Paint a ghost or.similar onto a big cardboard box, cut out the mouth, and have them 'feed' the ghost by throwing balls into the mouth.

IDontDrinkTea · 25/10/2021 07:17

Call me mad… we’re doing something similar and am doing Halloween messy play in my lounge 🤦🏼‍♀️ So have bought green gelli baff and will have a big tub of that with some little plastic eyeballs and spiders. Then another tuff tray with orange lentils for them to pour

Nigella suggests red jelly effectively in Feast (strawberry and raspberry and blackcurrant) though I probably wouldn't label it as blood clots to toddlers, together with slime (lime jelly made with milk). Also chocolate cake (could be packet, could be cupcakes) with Halloween jelly lollipops or jelly sweets on top.

I'll so happy I found this thread. I'm planning a little party for 2 year olds!

My ideas so far have involved:
Halloween sensory - cooked spaghetti for witches hair, peeled grapes for eyeballs, slime
Bobbing apples
Crafts - pre-cutting monsters out of black card and providing googly eyes and other bits for them to stick on

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 26/10/2021 07:37

Pumpkin face pizzas? Buy ready made mini pizzas and have some bits prepped to make faces?
