dd's have these lying in the toy room that never get used now.

dh is going to take the bells of the strap and thread through a bit of red ribbon and leave them for the dd's to find on christmas morning, just like the first gift of christmas in the polar express, i thought it was a BRILLIANT idea.

only thing is do we leave them in the house for them to find or put them in the garden so it looks like they fell of the sleigh while santa was in delivering presents???

It is a brilliant idea, how old are your DD's ?

kerryk · 10/12/2007 18:45

dd1 just turned 6 a few weeks ago and dd2 is 3.5 so they are both at such a good age for doing christmas things with. i am so proud of him its the best idea he has had in the 7 years i have known him

Lovely idea! Are they likely to be bothered about the garden on Christmas day though? I'd put them somewhere in the house. Do you have an open fireplace? I ripped a peice of red material once and stuck it up the chimney, like Father Christmas' trousers had been snagged on the way down! I sent dd to shut the soot flap, because we didn't need to leave it open for him anymore and she found it!

KittyLetteItSnow · 10/12/2007 18:48

Awww thats so sweet!

You could wrap them up like in the film? in a little box with a tag 'from santa' and make a really big thing out of you and DH 'not seeing that present last night' and how santa mustve brought those ones especially!

awww - my eldest is almost 3 and hates christmas

and the 18 month old loves the lights but doesnt get it yet!

What a sweet idea. We have bought a "santa key" because this year we don't have a fire place. It is a beautifully ornate pewter key on a red ribbon which we will hang on the outside of the front door on xmas eve for santa to use to let himself in.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 10/12/2007 19:05

I would leave it in the front garden, and if they don't find it until the next day so much the better. It will reinforce all the magic they had experienced the day before.

Better not to overload them with too much magic in one go. IMO

DS's favourite cuddly is one that our friends "found" in their garden on Christmas Day and brought it to our house on NYE.

His face was a picture.

we are going to my parents on christmas day so we will have to go through the garden, i thought the garden would be nice because i dont want the bells to be overshadowed by all the presents in the living room.

i also love the santa key idea

I love all this magic! My dd is 12, but I'm still gonna do it this year. She hasn't admitted that she knows, but how can she not? She is so humouring me!

COV

The Santa key is a piece of genius, well done. When you are finished with it, you could insert it in..................perhaps not, she is stil his DM.

charmkin · 10/12/2007 19:18

did this a few years ago

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 10/12/2007 19:21

Would love to take credit for it, but I found it in a gift shop a couple of months ago, along with a little pewter tamkard of the same design to leave santa a little tiple. Nice idea about the alternative use . BTW have you read the latest development?

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 10/12/2007 19:21
