Who's DH is working Christmas Day?

DH has always had jobs where they don't do bank holidays etc. and whoopee, he is down to work Christmas eve night, and Christmas day night so will be sleeping most of Christmas day then leaving about 6.30 pm. To make matters worse, they want him to swap to the day shift Christmas Day and Boxing Day so he will be gone before DS wakes up and back when he is in bed He is ringing them back to say no, but he may not have a choice. It's the same every year. Does anyone elses DH have to work over Christmas or New Year?

Aww, that's pants. Do you have to? My mum does sometimes but that's because she gets triple time or something.

No, but I am! DS was horrified but I have to do it. He's used to me being off as I've managed to get out of the past few years.

My dp is on call all over christmas apart from boxing day, he has said though he will not go out before 12 in the afternoon so he can be with the kids to open there presents.

They don't normally get called out so i am hoping he does not over christmas either.

My dh has worked loads of Xmases over the years, which has involved him not actually being home at all at Xmas. He worked offshore for some years and this year he'll be in Africa while the dc and I will be in Scotland. It's not what I'd wish for but we'll survive!

Last Christmas was the first one my DH hadn't worked in 18 years - that's his whole working life.
DH and his boss work Christmas and have New Year off - 4 days - or vice versa, alternate years.
Unfortunately, this year there is no one to help out over NY so DH is working both Christmas and NY.
He goes out at 3.45am and comes in about 9am and then goes back about 2pm and comes in about 5.30pm. So it's not as bad as it could be.

He's taking me and dd here for a few days in January to compensate

all dh's friends are going to be in iraq this year (again!!!!) we have been really lucky and dh was pulled back at the last minute.

i will be thinking of them all this christmas!!!

this year is the first time in 4 yrs dh has christmas day off - he's never spent Christmas Day with DS2 who's 3. He works 12 hour shifts so goes at 5.50am & gets back about 7pm - am not sure whether I'm as delighted as I should be that he'll be home this year

Yes, dh working Christmas and New Year. Sometimes manages to get on or the other off but not this year.
