@weebarra

Bigarse, thinking of you. I've done the cancer thing myself so I know how crappy it can make you feel. Your DH is obviously in a different position though. I'll definitely keep an eye out for things that might be appropriate.
thanks
@bigarse1 The first thing that sprung to my mind for your husband was sleeping headphones. Headphones that you can wear lying down in bed. Then he can listen to music, stories, pod casts etc and help drown out background/household noise when he needs to. I am sure you’ll find what you need for him and your children to make it special. I have an autistic child and he surprises me occasionally in accepting things when I thought he’d have difficulty in doing so.
ooh i havent heard of this! Will have a look. He does have some earphones but is struggling to listen to anything at the moment but this may be a good one. thank you

bigarse1 · 27/10/2021 17:04
@bigarse1 if you are near Derby we have a box of My Little ponys you can have - the large, hard plastic ones - a variety of them that light up/make sounds.
That is so kind of you, unfortunately we are in Kent but thank you so much x

bigarse1 · 27/10/2021 17:07
@bigarse1 does he have Spotify? Maybe a subscription and you make different playlists for him? Then if he is in and out he's just missing songs, which get repeated? Also there are podcasts which are good if he's feeling up to concentrating more, but can always be replayed? I link ours through the phone and Alexa sometimes. If you don't already have this set up you can also link alexa to other rooms and use as a tanjore so if he needed you he could just 'drop in' to the room you were in and ask for what he needed. Also I think you could then listen to the same players so you were hearing the same hints at the same time, even if he was not well enough for you and the kids to be in the same room all the time.
I hope you manage to have a comfortable and enjoyable Christmas.
He doesnt have spotify at all. I had considered if a while back as he has had a couple of big ops and was stuck in hospital with no visitors. I had discounted it as he has stopped listening but maybe this would give him more options. We dont have an alexa and for some reason he is quite against them, or was but i think spotify and headphones could be good.
thank you. off to look at prices

bigarse1 · 27/10/2021 17:09
@bigarse1 im sorry to hear about your dh, Christmas doesn't have to be the same to be fun.
Does he get cold? Maybe an oodie type hoodie or a nice fluffy fleece blanket. Hot water bottle, the long ones are lovely. Dunhelm sell them reasonably priced.

I also agree with the alexa suggestion, with a Spotify subscription. Or audible if he enjoys books. Could also get those smart plugs that link up to it for a lamp or the lights.

If he's up to reading, how about a kindle. Lighter to hold than a book and can adjust the back-light so he wouldn't need to get up and turn on lights.

Have you checked the works for books? They have some deals on and bundles of children's books. And I found a code for 20% off XGSG20.

For my little pony have you looked on places like truffle shuffle, emp? They might have adult bits which could work. H&M often have my little pony stuff too. If you are signed up to build a bear birthday club they send money off for birthday and randomly. they do nice plush toys. (Or if you don't mind second hand they go really cheap on facebook/ebay) if you ask nicely in the build a bear shop they might add extra stuffing in, they did this for my dds favourite pony who was getting a little flat!!
Thank you for some lovely suggestions, you are all really lovely and so kind.
i have bought him an oddie and blankets etc as he is so uncomfortable and cold but hadnt seen the long hot water bottle so have put that on the list as that looks perfect.
He isnt able to read at the moment.
Off to look at the my little pony stuff too, thanks

bigarse1 · 27/10/2021 17:10
@bigarse1 what about an audio book subscription like audible? The sleeping headphones sound like a fantastic idea. I think a family watch of his favourite film might be nice. We did this with my dad when he was poorly.
thank you. I'm going to look at the subscription and the earphones. Im not sure he is able to listen at the moment but it may make him feel less alone x

bigarse1 · 27/10/2021 17:12
@bigarse1- H&m have my little pony underwear in age 8-10. I've also been on a similar hunt for my niece! Character.com have MLP clothes up to age 9-10. For plushes- buildabear have cherilee currently on offer 25% off. Xsstock.co.uk have some smaller bargain plushes (but none I wanted sadly). I ordered Songbird Serenade from homestoredirect website (not a bargain bit specifically requested- not arrived yet so no idea on quality). I've also bought some cutie mark blind bags on offer at a1 toys as stocking fillers reduced to 1.99.
So sorry about your husband. My MiL has got really into aromatherapy oils whilst having chemo as she can enjoy the scents without moving a muscle and she has a plug in diffuser so no faffing with candles etc. She says she doesn't have have the mental energy for music/audio books some days but she enjoys this (although she is a bit of a hippie so might not be for everyone!)
Thank you so much! I had looked and couldnt find any. will go and look now. aromatherapy oils sound good too as we already have a diffuser thing that i could set up

bigarse1 · 27/10/2021 17:13
@bigarse1 what about a remote holder type thing that hold things over the end of the bed? Make things easier to access if suitable.
that sounds good too! thanks

@ThatIsHowTheLightGetsIn

Also, popping back on to say I would recommend a Wreck This Journal, with the codes is just over a fiver at WHS.

I got one for DD11 for her birthday and it has amused her no end this week

Thank you for the Wreck Your Journal recommendation. Will be perfect for a 11.5 yr ok’d girl we are struggling to think of ideas for!

Does anyone know of/recommend so inexpensive journaling pens to go with it?

Fluffitybrush · 27/10/2021 19:18

Flash sale on New Look, 25% off almost everything. Use code BAGIT25 just until 10pm tonight!

SpamIAm · 27/10/2021 19:36

@Fluffitybrush ive been trying so hard to resist a pair of boots that are now stalking me in my Facebook ads, 25% off might just rip me over the edge...

Fluffitybrush · 27/10/2021 19:47

@SpamIAm I hope they are in the offer! I’m not quite sure what’s not included! Happy shopping 🛍

Homerenonovice · 27/10/2021 20:11

@IDontDrinkTea my daughter loves Gabby’s dollhouse as well. I seem to recall that someone asked the same question before and there was a response saying the toys are coming to the uk later this year. I’ve tried searching back but I can’t find it anymore, it was definitely before Christmas though.

cinders222 · 27/10/2021 20:37

@Squ1ggle

I have a £5 off code for Halfords that they've sent me. Seems to be a unique code but no minimum spend apparently. Can anyone make use of it?
Hi If no one has claimed it I would love it. Buying a bike helmet.
DumplingsAndStew · 27/10/2021 22:11

@Adelais

Dad Cheesy Joke Book only £3 on Amazon amzn.to/3Bjv17C Maybe a good stocking filler for dads!
Thank you for this! This is perfect for the little novelty gift book I always buy my brother for his bathroom bookshelf 😂
NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 27/10/2021 22:15

There's a new thread! Everyone moved over early again.

Glad I came back for the dad joke book though for FIL Grin

MeredithGreyishblue · 27/10/2021 22:20

@bigarse1 I was really sceptical about the Bluetooth headband earphones but I love them. Absolutely soft enough to doze off in. I put my audible on a sleep timer and go to bed. When I'm really low, having a story told to me is quite soothing.
Hope you're OK. Must be difficult planning a Christmas for children around this.

Newnormal99 · 28/10/2021 06:59

Codes for 20% off Matalan. MAT50 / MAT75 / MAT100.

Just got a sloth Christmas duvet for my daughter after Asda delivered a cushion instead of her koala one which then went out of stock!

I'm after an instaxx mini camera but everywhere is £69.99 or £74.99 anyone seen them cheaper?

I paid £59 in November last year which is the cheapest it's been on Amazon. Worth setting up a camelcamelcamel alert.

Ice white one on amazon is £59.99:

instax 16654982 mini 11 Camera, Ice White amazon.co.uk/dp/B084S4CMTB/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_FWZCF4M6N3CW1VXT218J]]

DumplingsAndStew · 28/10/2021 07:54

There's 10% off at Boots on orders over £50, so that would bring the Instax mini down to around £63, depending on colour preference.

Crapbags · 28/10/2021 08:54

Apologies if already stated but the entertainer have £10 off £60 or £20 off £100 with code SAVEMORE

Autumnleaves4 · 28/10/2021 09:19

@Yumyumbaronie Hi, I tried your Lakeland code £10 one and it says the code hasn’t been activated, is there something you can do to activate it?
Many thanks.

Autumnleaves4 · 28/10/2021 09:23

@BeaLola hello, I have also tried your Lakeland £20 voucher and gave the same message, code not activated. Any ideas? Thank you.
