@ItWasTheBestOfTimes Do you or anyone else know if the playmobil adverts are full size playmobil, or are they smaller, the figures? Thanks!
We had a Playmobil advent calendar last year (albeit one bought a few years ago) - there was an adult-figure-sized Father Christmas and the helpers/elves were child-figure-sized. Is that what you meant?

MydeamonsanOstrich · 25/10/2021 18:18

@StopGoQuitStart via the drop down menu (top left on mobile site) select books/ childrens books/ older children (8-12). Then filter results and under category you can choose 8 year olds... narrows it down but there's still a couple of thousand results to trawl through. I can't find a way to get it to show book sets or collections but they do have them.

It's a dreadful website, but I've had some bargains so won't complain too much!

WhereTheresAHill · 25/10/2021 18:37

I’d also love a Gap code please if anyone has one spare! Thank you!

DinosaurOfFire · 25/10/2021 18:44

@Haudyourwheesht We had this one www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/fashion-and-dolls/disney-frozen/disney-frozen-2-fold-and-go-arendelle-castle/p/177852 from Smyths last year which looks similar to the Princess one, its held up well and it is easy to fold away and get out. I havent used wowcher though so can't give any feedback on that sorry.

TU at Sainsbury's have a up to 50% off clothes sale online at the moment. There are some fantastic bits on there and some real bargains.

Motherofplants · 25/10/2021 18:56

@Rockhopper81 Yes thanks, I meant if the figures are are same size as the usual ones so they could be used together! Thank you!

Can also confirm I had free shipping from smiths on a £10 order :)

PizzaCrust · 25/10/2021 19:04

From WHSmith, I purchased:

Some wrapping paper (two rolls did come quite 'narrow', though, so definitely check the measurements. It was the brown paper with the reindeers and brown paper with snowflakes). I don't mind because they'll be handy for wrapping smaller gifts, but won't be universally suitable. Just something to keep in mind.

Books for DDs (both under 3):

 • Two Peppa Pig Christmas books for DD1
 • Kipper's Christmas Eve / The Snowman pop up book (for Christmas Eve boxes)
 • That's Not My Fairy touch and feel book for DD2, as well as the Peep Inside Christmas book for her, too
 • A Christmas activity book: Press Out and Colour Christmas Decorations, also for Christmas Eve

Advent calendar for DD2 (Usborne books one, DD1 got a Peppa Pig one when it was reduced on Amazon for the same price as it is in WHSmith)

Savings came in at just under £30.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/10/2021 19:04

@MerylSqueak my sister made up a marbling kit for DD herself which was fab. Inks, some blank cards, polystyrene shapes, wooden skewers to hold them on and paper, all in a big flat Really Useful Box which could be used to hold the water (much appreciated by me!).

Haudyourwheesht · 25/10/2021 19:14

Thanks @DinosaurOfFire , we looked at that one last year but this year she has decided that she doesn't like Frozen any more (probably because her three year old sister likes it..).

MerylSqueak · 25/10/2021 19:18

Thank you@IHeartKingThistle. You probably go et better value doing it that way.

Can anyone recommend books for recently diagnosed dyslexic. Hes 9 but reading a few years behind. All the books are too babyish but we still need to read to him as he cant manage himself

Minionbums · 25/10/2021 19:32

@mummyof2boys30 how is he with graphic novels? Less reading, can infer more from the pictures and enjoy them that way?

mummyof2boys30 · 25/10/2021 19:36

I'm gonna be entirely honest. I don't know. We are still reading things like what the ladybird heard etc too him. He still enjoys them but so much more babyish than what he could be enjoying. Its all so recent we have always avoided anything else as he gets very worked up with reading

Haudyourwheesht · 25/10/2021 19:43

@mummyof2boys30, have you looked at Pearson Graded Readers? There is a good range of stories for all ages but with simplified language. There are Marvel stories, and similar. I've used them for EAL learners before but I'm sure they'd do well for people with dyslexia. There's a good range of non fiction too iirc, which can sometimes be better for reluctant readers, especially boys.

No I've never heard of those. I'll go and have a wee look at them now. Thanks 😊

Not a bargain as such - can anyone recommend some good quality essential oils for a diffuser from Amazon? ( lots on offer but I’m not sure what is a quality oil?)
