Hi all. Thinking of booking an overnight visit to a city in the week leading up to Christmas with my DDs. Looking for a city with lots of festive activities or a Christmas market. Any recommendations please?

I was looking at Bath but don't think they have their Christmas market on this year. Don't fancy London. Does Brighton have anything?

We're close to Winchester so fancy somewhere different.

Thanks

Chester?

Christmas markets are on and there's the lanterns at Chester zoo

Chester has been on my list of places to visit for the last couple of years so a good shout. Is the town centre good for shopping as well please?

Off to google!

Manchester is fab, great mulled wine/drinks and food stalls, fab stalls selling gifts, cheeses, confectionery etc, it’s huge, they have them set up in a few different areas around the centre, so you can try different ones, you’ve also got Manchester arndale for shopping too, it’s got everything

I'd second Chester. Easy to get to on the train and they have Oliver Twist on at the lovely Storeyhouse.
Shopping is good (rather than amazing) the Christmas Market is pretty, the Cathedral is lovely and there is also the zoo of course.

Although Bath isn't going to have its usual market there's a plan to make it a seriously festive city

Cardiff is going ahead with theirs, it's much better than the formulaic "German style" as a lot of the stalls are local.

Edinburgh is gorgeous at Christmas but might be too far for you?

The Christmas market is lovely

Manchester is usually good, however at the moment they can't have it in its usual place for to the town hall building work. I believe the plan is to have the main part in Piccadilly Gardens this year. For those not familiar with Manchester, this is not a good area of town. Brings a new meaning to the words 'spiced wine'. 😳
