What would you do with this porch?

This is the front of my house. The paint needs touching up on the porch doors around the door furniture and the bags and big box of plants needs moving out of the porch. Aside from that, how do I decorate it for Christmas/seasonally? The two middle doors open, the two side panels are static, there is a front door inside the porch door with a window to one side. Where to put a wreath? More than one? Small trees? Plants in pots? Lights? Help!

There is a bay window out of shot with matching stained glass so that could have lights around it too to tie it in. I like natural, greenery, unusual floral, traditional Victorian/Edwardian.

I'd put a small Christmas tree in there. (Lit up, but NOT with blue lights)

prettyteapotsplease · 20/10/2021 12:59

Could you put a wreath in the centre of the leaded-light window above the doors if it's not too high to reach safely?

I think a couple of small trees (one on each side) would look great, but then I love a mirror-image (can't spell symmetry).

StarShapedWindow · 20/10/2021 13:22

I think I’d put a small tree on either side of the static panels on the outside and a large wreath on the door inside. I’d put lights on the trees.

HarrisonStickle · 20/10/2021 13:31

can't spell symmetry

You just did. Confused Grin

Sn0tnose · 20/10/2021 14:16

I’d have a big split wreath on the outside so you can still use the doors and either a proper tree with warm white lights or a smaller lit tree either side of your wooden door.

Sn0tnose · 20/10/2021 14:18

Or, could you fix natural branches and greenery going along the top of the frame? Like a longer version of a mantelpiece arrangement.

bilbodog · 20/10/2021 14:18

Lovely porch OP! I would put a small tree on either side lit up with warm white lights - could be small christmas trees or topiaried olive or box trees. A wreath on the front door.

Dont forget to post a photo when you've done it!

offyougotwantychops · 20/10/2021 14:28

No idea, but love your porch (I'd have to have a citrus tree in there....completely unhelpful response Grin)

StyleDesperation · 20/10/2021 15:46

Oh thank you! Some great ideas here.

@offyougotwantychops funnily enough a family friend is growing me a lemon tree which will live on my patio and come into my porch for the winter/spring. Probably not this year though sadly.

If anyone has links to anything they think would work, share away. Like the sound of the split wreath too but haven't seen anything like that before. Anyone seen anything?

Think I need to find an outdoor lit garland with battery pack as no suitable outdoor power on the front of the house.

Will have to trawl for decorations, how sad! I will post a picture when it's done.

Just wanted to say how lovely your porch is! My front door is horrid PVC and it makes me sigh internally every time I come home. Yours is a thing of beauty!

StyleDesperation · 20/10/2021 15:58

That's so kind, thank you. I do love it, and definitely feel I haven't made the most of it so far.

I'd either put a wreath on both of the static side-doors, or do as a pp said, and buy/make a big garland to go up the side, across the top of the doorframe and down the other side.

ChristmasCrafter · 20/10/2021 16:19

Ohh that is a lovely porch!
I would put a small Christmas tree lit up either side and frame the windows either side of the doors with lights too, all lights to be warm white! Then I would put two small wreaths, one on each door.

DappyApple · 20/10/2021 17:23

I’d kill for a porch like that!

I think I’d put a Garland with lights around the arch on the outside. Two small trees with lights on, on the inside either side of your door. And a wreath on your inside door.

DappyApple · 20/10/2021 17:27

Or maybe I’d ditch the Garland on the arch and just have string lights around the perimeter of porch, would look lovely to have lights shining through the stained glass!

KitchenKrisis · 20/10/2021 22:30

Lights outside and inside would be lovley, some of snow flake stickers on some glass and a little tree.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 20/10/2021 22:39

Ignore the people saying 2 wreaths. It looks like eyes staring at you and one will definitely end up on a wonk.

No, something like the second pic would be awesome!

Have alook at this Balsam Hill potted trees, battery operated and for porches or patios. Something like this two pack...

Whatwillbewilbe · 20/10/2021 22:47

*these not this!

Holothane · 20/10/2021 23:04

Last year I brought our in-laws two trees and a wreath for the front door they loved it.

SpookyPumpkinPants · 20/10/2021 23:19

I would put a wreath on the internal front door. (Soft) White lights inside around the stained glass. A Christmas tree on the RHS
and a table on the left with (battery operated)
'Church' candles and a couple of Christmas bits.

&'if it's the kind of area they wouldn't get trashed a couple of nice reindeer outside.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 21/10/2021 06:41

Sod Christmas, that'd be plants galore if I got my hands on it!

ChristmasCrafter · 21/10/2021 08:35

@NigelSlatersXmasTaters I think it depends on the placement of the two wreaths. This picture you added does look a bit odd as they are so far down. I don't think mine looks like it has eyes...or does it?! 🤔

So pretty. Love the warm lights against the stone.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/10/2021 12:15

I would get ds to make paper snowflakes and stick them on the inside of the windows with white tack 😁
