My nearly 6 year old reliably says she wants Santa to bring two orchard games for Christmas that are for younger kids. She might enjoy them briefly but not all year. They’re not that expensive but it won’t be good value.
Do we get them as that’s what she’s asking Santa for? Or does Santa choose some other game that she’ll like more and hope it doesn’t ‘ruin Christmas’
Thanks

Personally, I would buy the cheaper of the two Orchard games - so she knows Santa has listened. And then try and choose a few more age-appropriate options.

Orchard do games suitable up to about 8. I'd buy one she wants and a more age appropriate one. They aren't expensive and generally made of cardboard so not too bad for environment.

I would look for second hand. Facebook marketplace and Ebay, but also have a look on Facebook- you might have a local free cycle or "I need a whisk" group, or there are "free for postage" groups on Facebook (I use one called Preloved to Reloved for postage) where you can request certain items. I bet someone has that exact game you're looking for, languishing in a cupboard somewhere.

My dd also 6 had quite a few orchard toys games, we passed most of them on a few years ago. However there are 1 or 2 that she has hold on to and pulls out quite regularly for a game even though she’s way older than the suggested age (her brothers 8 & 10 are often coerced into playing too!) I think orchard toy game work no matter what the age

Have a look on vinted for orchard toys games, there are loads fairly cheap.

Iknownothing · 24/10/2021 08:56

Could you get one orchard game and then one similar game that’s a bit more grown up? If you say which ones they are - we could offer suggestions?

I've just hit the same issue with Lego, DS has plonked something on his list that is far too young for him. I'm really loathed to let him get it. If it was a low cost item I wouldn't be too bothered but a £50 I think it's madness.

AFOLs would say the age doesn't matter... (I bought myself a Frozen set the other day, but it goes well with some of my other sets)... but the younger sets can be rather simple... which set is it and how old is he?
Lockdownbear · 26/10/2021 12:58

I'm also an AFOL but the Iron-man Hall if Armour just looks so boring, maybe I'm just not into Marvel, compared to Star Wars Ships or something it just doesn't appeal. He's 11.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/10/2021 13:50

@Lockdownbear I see what you mean with that set!

Lockdownbear · 26/10/2021 14:30

It looks very repetitive. DS2 is getting the Ocean Ship which is a little old for him but I can live with that. The Hall of Armour is just lame in comparison.

Grapesoda7 · 26/10/2021 14:35

We've had Orchard Toy games since my children were toddlers, my 9 year old still plays them and when her friend (same age) comes round, they both want to play them together.

I'm getting her a new one for Christmas, so I'd say if that's what they want, go for it.

bigbeautwoman · 26/10/2021 14:41

@SpringSparrow

There’s a room on the broom game available on Amazon, is that the one she wants?!
And ebay
tanqueray10 · 31/10/2021 05:58

@wouldthatbeworse My 5 and 8 year olds love the orchard games!! I’ve just seen that Aldi have some coming in next week for only £3.99 each if that helps x

wouldthatbeworse · 31/10/2021 08:00

Thanks for all the responses. You helpful lot had convinced me to just buy them (pos second hand) so I hadn’t checked back. But if people are interested (rainy Sunday) she wants:
Dotty sausage dogs (we already have dotty Dinos which we rarely play)
Magic maths (stealth boast - she’s naturally good at maths so this isn’t tricky for her)
The room on the broom thing is the discontinued 4 in 1 games box. There’s a dragon chase game on Amazon that looks quite good. I’ll prob get that instead

Thanks for all your replies.
