I think I might be a curmudgeon.
I just don't really want lots of shit.
They won't do Oxfam gifts because (bless 'em) they know we are skint so they want to get things for me.
I have no idea what to ask for.
(I also think I did a thread like this last year....)
Am I totally unimaginative or what??

I can never think when people ask me.

I think it annoys them.

It's not deliberate - I don't have a farking clue.

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 09/12/2007 19:29

Actually what I would like would be £5000 and a personal shopper
Or a gym membership and some time to use it
I was really scraping the bottom of the barrel when I told dh today that I wouldn't mind a seed-sprouter

Me neither - and I have nothing too! My mum has finally got the message that I don't want anything for Christmas

harpsichordcarrier · 09/12/2007 19:29

would you like me to give you a list?
honestly, it's no trouble
you can just pass the stuff onto me

what I really really want is some storage from ikea.

DO you think it would be rude to ask for vouchers? (am suspecting the answer to be yes).

What I don't want is more tat I will end up giving to charity shop, it seems a waste of their money.

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 09/12/2007 19:44

I think I am probbaly hacked off because last year, I made a wish list
ANd everybody ignored it

What do you all want? (Ikea storage, Armadillo, noted.)

I go into book shop and write down everything I fancy reading.

never usually buy (new) books for myself, always think I can get them from the library then never get round to it.

also there are the little bits and pieces (ahem) that I managed to find for myself when I was supposed to be shopping for others. DH has a small stash of things for me from the DCs, all of which I have bought.

bunnyhunny · 09/12/2007 20:03

I can never think of anything either, and my parents don't like giving money, as it seems kinda rubbish, so this year, I have asked for Euros for our holiday in spain in March. Parents are pleased with that one!

littleshebear · 09/12/2007 22:56

I have nothing and don't want anything either - isn't it weird? Dredged my brain and came up with cake tins and a nightie but obviously don't really want either....perhaps I've just got past wanting material things after being skint for nearly 15 years with small children...

worriedparent · 09/12/2007 23:09

Me too - there's just nothing I want or need and I hate being asked what I'd like for Christmas etc. I also find it a pain when others ask me to think of things for the dc when I'm already out of ideas myself for what to get them!!

I did, this year have a stroke of genius though and when my Mum asked me what she could get us for Christmas, I suggested tickets for our local pantomime. The dc have wanted to go for the last few years and we just haven't been able to afford it (and our local theatre isn't overly expensive). She thought this was a brilliant idea and is delighted to not have to think any further and the dc are delighted as they're finally going to make it to the panto!!

winestein · 09/12/2007 23:23

Roffling at the seed sprouter.

I tend to ask for practical gifts or very specific things (mostly both) as I am not keen on piles o' shite either.

This year I will mostly be receiving a pair of boots which I bought and handed over, an expensive lipstick which I chose and waved goodbye until the 25th and some GHD's as a joint present for my crappy 23rd december birthday and christmas. I also quite like receiving candles as if they are nice I can burn them and if they are crap I can light my stove with them if it has gone out

80sMum · 09/12/2007 23:36

I'm another one who doesn't want anything. I'm trying to get rid of clutter, so I certainly don't want any more! On the other hand though, I'd quite like a weekly cleaner and gardener - or a new bathroom or a new kitchen floor, if anyone fancied getting those!

snicebutdidyoukeepthereceipt · 09/12/2007 23:39

How about asking for a magazine subscription?-its lovely when it arives every month.

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 09/12/2007 23:43

snice I did that last year but nobody got me the sub I wanted because they haven't heard of the magazine! I did wonder what the point of asking me was.....
I don't really do mags. I am just not a big consumer. Partly this is intentional smuggery and partly trauma from having moved and still trying to fit stuff in the house, and also partly that we have been skint for a while and I have got used to not spending on myself.
I really would like some new clothes but it's not the sort of thing one can ask people to buy for one (without hideous mistakes being made).

What about a new vest? [dog flogging dead horse bone emoticon]

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 09/12/2007 23:52

The other thing I would like as a present would be the promise of an evenings babysitting - any good?

snicebutdidyoukeepthereceipt · 09/12/2007 23:57

I'm not offering by the way.

LadyOfTheFlowersXmasName · 09/12/2007 23:58

I would like any of the following:

some storage/furniture for the kids' room

new carpets as they are wrecked

the dogs to be shampooed and have their nails clipped at the dog salon

a new washing machine

my oven cleaned and freezer defrosted

to be 4 maybe 5 stone lighter

a full nights sleep

to have a bath ON MY OWN

to not feel knackered all the time

for my poorly goldfish to get better

for DS1 to give up his bottles before his teeth get totally wrecked

Many of these things very easily achieveable!

LadyOfTheFlowersXmasName · 09/12/2007 23:59

Chances of any of them happeneing, slim to zero! LOL

winestein · 10/12/2007 00:02

for the temptress in you

mulledwinestein · 10/12/2007 00:05

oh bloody hell I have just realised.... Is it really the Christmas season?

CremolaFirCone · 10/12/2007 00:17

Pruni- i don't think you are a curmudgeon. I think it is really hard to stand by and watch people throw money away when you have so little in your own purse.
My nana always said she just wanted a pair of rubber gloves for `xmas. She was so pleased when I finally gave in and bought her a pair that she cried. After all those years of receiving tins of sweets and old lady perfume I think she was finally glad some one had listened to her.

BahHunkerBug · 10/12/2007 00:25

Can't you get a nice new lipstick and give your MIL a treat?
