I’m feeling at a bit of a loss with DD this year. I’m full of ideas for DS, who’s 3, but feeling uninspired on DD. And there doesn’t seem to be anything major she wants either.

What are you all getting your five year old girls?

My daughter will have just turned 6 at Christmas and this is what I’ll be getting her:
LOL doll
A writing set with envelopes, notecards etc some nice colouring pencils
A book
New nightie
Some chocs and little bits for in her stocking

Rainallnight · 16/10/2021 22:57

Thank you! Actually I got her a lovely writing set last Christmas and she loved it, so no harm in doing that again Smile

My 4 year old is getting lots of small presents: books, puzzles, orchard games, a bloopies mermaid for the bath- no big thing as we are moving out of peppa/ paw patrol etc and haven’t quite landed on the nxt fad- works for me!

Rainallnight · 16/10/2021 22:57

And by me, I mean me/Father Christmas!

My daughter is getting a tonie, some playmobil, sylvanians, craft stuff, play jewellery, books from various people.

At her birthday recently, she enjoyed her polly pocket, mermaid barbie, hama beads, washimals and jewellery making kits.

Rainallnight · 16/10/2021 22:59

Thanks @OnlyFoolsnMothers Yes, there doesn’t seem to be a big new craze here either. She does really like Polly Pockets and would always welcome one of those. But I slightly worry that she’ll be infected by some school craze on December 23rd and then I’ll be snookered!

Ooh yes, @Ziggerty, some Playmobil will go down well. She got a Yoto for her birthday but it hasn’t really taken off for some reason. I do wonder if I should have gone with the Tonie

My 5 yr old Dd is getting done stuntz Lego, a proper ceramic piggy bank (she asked for a money box in the shape of a pig), a moana dress and a reading light that goes around behind her neck (unexpected request!).

Rainallnight · 16/10/2021 23:19

Ooh great one, we’ve been talking with DD about getting a piggy bank.

I’m intrigued by the reading light!

DD has just started school, she’ll be 4.5 at Christmas and we’re between fads too. Does anyone have an older kid that can advise whether a school craze is likely to hit her between now and Christmas? I’m worried about all these reports of shortages and late deliveries!

Karwomannghia · 16/10/2021 23:26

My dd has asked for a very tasteful frozen castle, roller skates, a belt, a wagon/cart to pull along. She got a yoto player for her birthday which she’s enjoyed.

Nat6999 · 17/10/2021 00:01

Have you seen the Sindy dolls are back in Argos, suitable for age 3 upwards, prices start from £20 for Sweet Treats, Fashion Blogger & Stylist, £25 for Pet Parlour & Ballet Studio, £35 for Horse Rider which does include a horse. All packs include accessories & a scene setter craft kit in the box.

DockOTheBay · 17/10/2021 10:40

If she's not a fan of the yoto player then don't get her a tonie as well, its basically the same but less longevity for a 5yo.

Rainallnight · 17/10/2021 10:47

@DockOTheBay I wouldn’t dream of it! I was just musing about the birthday decision.

Ah i see, sorry. They're very similar so she probably would feel the same about tonies anyway. Hopefully she will grow into the yoto as they are really great.

Rainallnight · 17/10/2021 10:57

No rewind function though! Absolutely mad.

My DS is nearly 5 and is really into Playmobil at the moment. I got him the Playmobil catalogue and he loves looking through it and asks for almost everything but I can see by his level of excitement which his favourites are. He seems to love the police range and the mermaids range the most. He isn't particularly into mermaids, but the Playmobil sets come with clam shells and pearls which he is desperate for (he loves anything treasure like and shiny) and there are light up sets and a mermaid themed marble run set. They look really good fun and I think they will go well with the pirate bits he already has.

He has a Yoto, and though he isn't bothered about the physical cards, he listens to them at bedtime (a story and then the Yoto sleep radio) and he listens to music on the way to school through headphones, I also always put one one while he is in the bath. So he doesn't seek it out himself as such but we definitely use it lots and lots, I think you just might need to facilitate it at this age.

My 5yo DD is Octonauts obsessed, so far I've got her the Octopod to go with the figures she has, and an Octonauts hoodie. I think I'm going to get her a Lego set (she has none yet)

My mum and dad have got her an easel (whiteboard one side, chalkboard the other, plus roll of paper).

Number109 · 17/10/2021 18:37

I was struggling for my 5 year old, her favourite thing to do is “play schools”! She spends hours teaching her bears, her sister or sticks outside! So I’ve bought her a playmobil school hoping she will enjoy building it and then role playing teaching again.

Number109 · 17/10/2021 18:39

I’ve also bought her a squish a boo rainbow owl which she saw and loved one day and a frozen dressing gown.

Number109 · 17/10/2021 18:40

@OnlyFoolsnMothers condolences but I suspect frozen fever is coming at you!

ShortColdandGrey · 17/10/2021 18:43

My DD is 5 and has asked for a barbie dressing/vanity table, a pink rug for her bedroom, some Bluey toys(the grannies figures), and panda slippers.

tootiredtospeak · 17/10/2021 18:49

Mine wants a Barbue Dreamhouse. I just cant its the biggest intrusive pile of shit plastic monstrosity. But she says Santa is getting it for all her friends at school and will she get ot if she is really good. I mean what do I do?

Silversun83 · 17/10/2021 18:57

DD will be 5.5 at Christmas.

I've got her:

a wooden dolls bunk bed (Our Generation/Designafriend size)
Our Generation doll with pet dog
Two Disney princesses (barbie sized, on the 2 for £15 at Argos)
Babysitting barbie with Chelsea and bathtub
Lego Dots cupcakes set
Playmobil playground
Books
Magic Maths orchard toys game

Her auntie is hopefully getting her a Galt science kit (which she asked for) and her grandparents the barbie car and doll (half-price in Tesco sale!) and a Designafriend doll.

Mrsfussypants1 · 17/10/2021 18:57

Our granddaughter will be 5 1/2 at Christmas, we've bought her the leapfrog learning adventures globe, a squarbie beanbag and a couple of Yoto cards (Worst witch and BFG). I know her parents have bought her lots of art bits, our generation bits & Lego and a bigger scooter.
