Ideas for my mum

I'm on a rolll this morning!

Need ideas for the old dear. Always my second hardest to buy for after dh. She is an active 75 (her birthday is next month so will be getting a big pressie for that).

Likes walking, archeology, anything garden, Pilates, cooking. Is on her own since my dad died and gets quite lonely so experiences tend to be out unless I can go too. She still likes to look good but has heaps of jewellery and lots of posh Bath stuff . Just bought herself a cashmere jumper and doesn't wear scarves or gloves.

Does she live close?
I’m getting my mum her hair done for her birthday. Usually I do an afternoon tea for the two of us but she’s immobile at the moment which makes things difficult.

I find my DM difficult…she appreciates anything but you can always tell if she genuinely loves something or not!

I had a big success last year though with a terrarium kit that I bought from Etsy. She loved putting it together and it is still proudly on display in her house and she always tells me how much she loves it!

My DM loves gardening and I purchased her a bee hotel one year and she loved it. You could also get her a voucher for a local gardening centre for her to use when it's planting season again.
My DF loves walking and one year I bought him some lovely walking socks. He still talks about the walking socks and how comfortable they are.

Cashmere camisole? I'm thinking about this for my mum. Looks lovely and cosy

Bird box with camera? We have one and it's amazing to watch.

Could you book theatre tickets for the two of you?
Some kind of therapy like massage or reiki if she is into that?

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/10/2021 12:57

My mum is in that age range and loved a gift box I gave her from this company:

tartanblanketco.com/collections/gift-boxes-for-her

Can be customised for the individual. The blankets are great quality and so snuggly (we have some in the house ourselves).

Bird feeder for garden (check out RSPB shop online or National Trust shop)
Very good gardening gloves and tools (secateurs, trowel and hand fork)
Indoor bulbs which will flower after Xmas
Cashmere!
Great books - things you've enjoyed or history - there's fantastic choice on classical civilisations at the moment
Lovely warm wooden blanket (again N Trust does great ones that are quite reasonable)
I find museum gifts shops fantastic, especially things like the V&A
Tickets for the 2 of you to go to an exhibition or show she might enjoy?

An experience as opposed to a tangible

Fallagain · 15/10/2021 13:30

I've bought my dad, similar age, an RHS book and a biography of Humboldt. The R US has loads of books about gardens not just gardening
