Items to put in a Christmas hamper - first Christmas in their new home

I’d be really grateful if anyone has ideas for a hamper I’m going to make for my DD and her partner who are spending their first Christmas in their new home. This is their first home together so I’d like to put some special things in but I can’t think what! I was thinking of things they could enjoy over Christmas and New Year. So far I have:-

Bottle of Baileys
Reusable ice cube things shaped like Christmas trees etc
Shortbread
A home made Christmas cake as she loves the ones I make
Home made mince pies
Matchmakers
Fruit teas (they don’t drink tea or coffee)
Christmas tea towels (not sure about these)

It’s a huge hamper basket like a wicker picnic basket so I need much more to fill it.

Gluhwein?

Stollen
Chocolate sprouts
Christmas candle
Fairy lights

cactuscushion · 13/10/2021 17:29

Perhaps you could write your homemade recipes into a book for her to keep to make her own in the future.

A bauble
Nice cheese
Crackers (both types!)

This is a lovely idea!

Same some Christmas cookie cutters, christmas mugs? candles, a bauble, some Christmas lights? - a mixture of edibles / consumables and things they can use for future Christmas’ and things they won’t already have (like themed items) would be nice.

All the cheese and posh biscuits, cheese board and cheese knives . lovely pickles , a good red wine to go with it ..
Bubbly (or two!)
Christmas Candle (Maybe not too spicy, as it all gets over the top something orangey .. maybe ?)
A really nice bauble for their tree.. what does she like? Maybe some fabulous glass angels .
Christmas socks
Crackers of course ..

big box of chocs maybe Hotel Chocolat as they do all sorts of sections

Christmas hand towel.

A nice star bowl (I saw one in M&S Christmas magazine)

Christmas handwash

When we have Christmas morning alone at our home, we will have Buck’s Fizz and pastries for breakfast. Could that be an idea?

If they’ve only just moved in, got the first mortgage payment, paying for decorating etc - they might find it useful to have a voucher for a garden centre so they can buy some decorations. Or a little tree they can pop up if they don’t have the funds for a big one.

Cheese, chutneys, deli meat platters.

Practical things - have they got a roasting tin yet? Yorkshire pudding tin?

Gourmet popcorn, Christmas bowl so they can watch some Christmas movies. Maybe a blanket if your DD would like that.

I quite like cheesy Christmas socks but I know they aren’t for everyone Blush

When my DH and I got our first home we started buying a new bauble each year, so you could get the first one and then it's something they do each year after?

goodgodlemon · 13/10/2021 17:40

I bought a lovely Christmas cushion cover last year just for the festive season. Christmas / winter fancy pot pourri (I think next did some). A nice christmassy throw. Fancy napkins / napkin rings

You’re lovely 😊 what a lucky daughter!
I’d personally enjoy….
Hot chocolate and maybe a mint syrup to add to it as an extra special treat
Some chocolates, we traditionally go to the Lindt store and pick a big bag of Lindt pick ‘n’ mix for Christmas
Some nice nuts
Florentines
Some chocolate covered apricots (I don’t know if you can buy them, we make them)
Churchkhela (my absolute FAVOURITE!)
I think the tea towels are a lovely idea.
I’d also maybe add in Christmas mugs (for the fancy hot chocolates)
Christmas

We’ve also been gifted one of these - www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/chocolate-for-dipping.html - previously which was really nice to do while watching Christmas films.

SolitaryTree · 13/10/2021 17:43

I don’t know how the extra “Christmas” ended up at the end of that!

DentalWorries · 13/10/2021 17:43

Sorry but I would hate a Christmas tea towel. Ditto a bauble unless you know the colour scheme of their tree. I have to hide the awful garish ones MIL insists on buying us around the back of the tree!

I would love Christmas candles, a corksicle, a champagne stopper than has little tags on it to mark whose drink is whose, champagne or any kind of fizz really or anything consumable. I hate tat that gets bought for the sake of it.

CottageOnTheHill · 13/10/2021 17:49

Fantastic, thanks so much. I’ll fill the hamper no bother now. I absolutely love the idea of a book with my recipes in she’ll love that. Thank you everyone.

You could add champagne, chutney, biscuits for cheese, a really nice bauble/tree decoration?

user1493494961 · 13/10/2021 18:16

I would use a Christmas tea towel but would hate a champagne stopper with little tags, I would consider it 'tat'.

nancybotwinbloom · 13/10/2021 18:37

Nice Christmas candles
Those florentine's from aldi. At least two boxes Grin
Can you fit in a nice fit heated throw?
Chutney to go with the cheese and crackers
Buck's Fizz for Christmas morning
Mulled wine
A board game

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/10/2021 18:40

I was going to suggest Mary Berry's Christmas recipe book (has some really good recipes and a bit more modern than Delia!), but if you're putting you're own in, then maybe not.

How do you put your Christmas cards up at home? DM bought me the strings/ribbons/clips, so I could do mine the same way.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 13/10/2021 19:01

Aldi florentines. Loads of them.

Stag personalised place names from Etsy.

Bloodybridget · 14/10/2021 06:57

My lovely SIL gave me a tea light holder, something like this although mine is plain silver metal and has angels. I love it and have it out every year.

Ha, yes, me too! Xmas Grin
Gladioli23 · 14/10/2021 07:43

You can get vacuum wine stoppers that make wine last which might be good?
