Tween/Teen Christmas books

When my children were little we used to have a selection of Christmas books to be read before bed.

As they've got older and reading independently their festive reads have included The Christmasaurus books, The Girl who saved Christmas and The Boy called Christmas. I will probably get DS10 the new Christmasaurus book but stumped on what my DD14 would enjoy this year.

I was wondering what your tweets and teens have enjoyed reading or what has caught your eye with a festive feel?

I've ordered the new Christmasurus book too, as well as the new JK Rowling book The Christmas Pig.

For a 14yo maybe The Dark Is Rising?

I’ve earmarked a few for my DD, but she’s your son’s age so they might be a bit young for your daughter. Not sure. But the ones I’m looking at are…
Tinsel - Sibeal Pounder
The Christmas pig - JK Rowling’s new one
Diary of a Christmas elf - Ben Miller
The Christmas Carrolls - Mel Taylor Bessent

Thanks I'll look into those.

My DD is a very good reader but I'm finding that she's becoming more reluctant due to the pressure school are putting on the pupils ( one eg is they have a 30 minute lunch break but they have to read for 10 minutes during this time)- so I think something light and fun might be what she needs

I agree with you. Sometime an ‘easy read’ is what is needed.

Another one I saved on the list is Wishyouwas: the tiny guardian of lost letters which look like a nice story.

Thinking of reading Hogfather to DS2 who will be 12 in December.

This is coming out soon. Collection of short mystery stories by a range of children’s authors, with a Christmas theme. www.waterstones.com/book/the-very-merry-murder-club/abiola-bello/annabelle-sami/9780755503681

I got Tinsel by Sibeal Pounder last year and my DD liked it. I do a Christmas theme book as a homemade advent calendar present. It definitely gets harder to find something as they get older!

The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder is really good.

My 11yo loved Tinsel, she has re-read it a lot.

Bit old fashioned but Hercule Poirot's Christmas is a good Agatha Christie, I think a teen would like it if she can get past the slightly antiquated language. Depending on what she's into, there's probably quite a few Christmassy rom com style books that would suit a 14 year old. Let it Snow by John Green looks good.

Thank you- I'll have a look at your suggestions
