I normally make a pavlova ahead of time and decorate like a Christmas wreath (see pic)

But would love to hear other ideas, I fancy a change this year!

I make a very boozy Sherry trifle, goes down very well (too well!)

whojamaflip · 09/10/2021 20:39

Trifle, salted caramel cheesecake, choc and raspberry roulade and ice cream here.

Then a massive cheese board for supper on Boxing Day (fav part of Christmas Grin)

The last couple of years I’ve made Jamie Oliver’s panettone tart. It’s really easy and everyone loved it.

Raspberry jelly. Ie jelly made from scratch with tinned raspberry juice and raspberries suspended in it. Really light and refreshing between the full on roast and the chocs/nuts/cheese.

I realise now that most people are cooking for 8-16 people which is why there are so many desserts on offer. Doh!

That’s a good idea. I love pavlova it’s my favourite dessert. We always have it at the Christmas evening buffet.

CaveMum · 09/10/2021 21:22

Delia also has a Christmas trifle recipe which was a hit last time I made it. I’m very partial to a Yule Log with thick layers of chocolate frosting!

I also once attempted a Tom Kerridge orange and almond cake which was a bit of a disaster!

Fastforwardtospring · 09/10/2021 21:36

We always have a Chocolate Malteser Christmas Pudding Cake, served with fresh cream, DD helps make it, so easy and everyone loves it.

FireworkParrot · 09/10/2021 22:56

I also came on to say Mont Blanc. I follow the Nigella "recipe" although it's so easy it's not really a recipe at all. It looks fabulous in cocktail glasses.

Or black forest trifle always feels really festive to me.

Graphista · 09/10/2021 23:38

I've a dd who is allergic to nuts and hates dried fruit so that ruled out Xmas pud here for many years (now she's moved out I can have it again!)

So we'd have toffee pudding or chocolate pudding or lemon drizzle cake or something that seems to be peculiarly scots which is icing topped gingerbread squares

Not gingerbread like gingerbread men but sponge cake

Sometimes lebkuchen or stollen just for me

Christmas pudding ice cream.

You slightly melt a tub of vanilla ice cream and stir in a splash of rum, mixed spice, the zest of an orange and a little orange juice, some nuts, glacé cherries - etc. - then re-freeze it.

You can make it even more simple and use crushed up mince pies!
AdoraBell · 09/10/2021 23:54

I’ve done Nigella Lawson’s gluten free chocolate brownies. Very rich as it’s ground almonds and 2 or 3, can’t remember atm, bars of 70% cacao chocolate.

Miliao · 09/10/2021 23:58

If there is room for pudding, then it’s not a proper Christmas dinner. Cheese much later by all means, maybe a slice of bouche if you have a sweet tooth.

Yes... we might manage a mince pie.

I like Xmas pud, but not after Xmas lunch!

WeAllHaveWings · 10/10/2021 01:23

Trifle (and it has got to be a proper one with jelly!)

StopMotion · 10/10/2021 01:33

Any suggestions for an egg-free and nut-free dessert? Some of my favorite desserts are sticky toffee pudding and trifle.

MissConductUS · 10/10/2021 01:53

Apple or pecan pie. With vanilla ice cream, of course.

PieMistee · 10/10/2021 02:15

Sorbets, such as mango, coconut, lemon and raspberry. You can serve them with langue de chat biscuits for those so inclined.
NalPolishRemover · 10/10/2021 12:23

Sherry trifle ! Always
But I usually have a selection of desserts & cheese so people can choose what they like
Bailey's cheesecake
Rosewater & pistachio meringues
Custard tart
Yule log
These are some of the desserts we've had over the years

You can definitely make an egg and nut free trifle.
KurtWilde · 10/10/2021 12:55

I'm doing individual melt in the middle sticky toffee puddings this year. I'll make them early and freeze them. That way whoever has room for pud can have one, and the ones left over can be eaten another time.
