DC2 is due early Dec and we would still like to get them some Christmas presents. Any ideas on good gifts for newborns?.

Teethimg giraffe

psuedocream3 · 06/10/2021 12:12

Things you would buy anyway, clothes, play gym, dummies, bibs, teething toys, nice blanket, rocker etc

wishing3 · 06/10/2021 12:13

I went down the route of things that would be part of our traditions in later years- beautifully illustrated Christmas story, stocking etc. Congratulations!

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 06/10/2021 12:55

I'm due end of November. I was thinking stuff like an activity mat, teethers, some toys for the next few months (i.e. 6months age).

milkytwilightt · 06/10/2021 13:39

Thanks they’re brilliant ideas. I like the ideas of presents that will become traditions.

A beautiful outfit to wear on the day.
Playmat/nest.

DD was 3mths on her first Christmas, we got the children a beautiful wooden swing set with a baby swing, regular swing and a seesaw from Father Christmas.

I’m due early Dec and we’re just going to do things they’ll be getting anyway. I’m expecting clothes from family, so probably more practical things like teething toys, play mat. Or whatever I’ve crocheted and they’ve not used yet (comforters).

LavenderBlue95 · 06/10/2021 14:57

There’s a website called ‘Samuel sensory’. They do all kinds of monochrome sensory gifts. We got the boards for my son. He loved it, also distracted him when changing as he didn’t like that.

A baby’s first Christmas bauble
A soft toy (DS loves his teddy bear that he received as a present when he was just a small baby)
A story or picture book about Christmas
A beautiful picture frame for a photo of baby’s first Christmas

severusvape · 06/10/2021 18:43

How about a car seat blanket, these are fab, you can unwrap them when you get indoors without waking them to take a coat off, so handy. I used mine in my pram too.

DS was actually born just after Christmas, but we bought a beautiful wooden nativity set. He's nearly 9 now, and it comes out every Christmas. Very special to us all, but probably not something we would have bought if he was slightly older and could of actually benefitted from toys.

TheShades · 06/10/2021 22:26

My DD was 6 weeks old for her first Christmas, we got her a beautiful hand made patchwork quilt

milkytwilightt · 07/10/2021 08:51

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I’m off to do some shopping now Grin

I'm in a similar position, DD2 was born on Sunday and will have all the toys etc she needs from DD1 who is 19 months. I don't want to buy her stuff for Christmas just for the sake of buying stuff. So she will be getting things I would be buying her anyway:

  • Personalised presents sack and personalised stocking (hopefully to match DD1's ones I bought last year if the sellers still do them)
  • Personalised memory box (same as DD1's)
  • Personalised 1st Christmas bauble that can be hung on the tree every year
  • Bedroom door name sign to match her sister's

Not my post but I love the idea of the nativity set.

My parents have one which I so desperately want; I've not bought my own in the decade since I moved out as I love theirs so much. But this would be a lovely idea of a new Christmas tradition. Starting my hols/maternity in a couple of weeks so plenty time to browse the shops for one.

milkytwilightt · 07/10/2021 09:38

Yes I love the nativity set idea❤️

Big (sized) gifts could be play gym, play mat or ball pit.

Medium-sized could be light up the projector, white noise machine/teddy or mobile for the cot.

Smaller things like teethers, rattles, soft toys, those little comfort blanket squares.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/10/2021 20:56

For a winter baby IMO the special baby sheepskin from Celtic sheepskin is lovely - I bought one for a Gdd born early Jan. so soft and warm- and it’s washable. V good for tummy time once they’re a little bit bigger, esp, if you have hard wooden floors.

Last Christmas my daughter was 2.5weeks old. A friend bought her a Lamaze doll as a newborn gift and she loves playing with it. She has a matchstick monkey that’s been great and a sensory play mat that even at 10mth now she likes to crawl to certain parts then sit and play with them.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 09/10/2021 05:41

We had a 7.5week old last Christmas 😊 We got him:

  • Fisher-Price deluxe kick and play piano - he absolutely loves it still and he’s 11months now!
  • personalised bedtime story book
  • beautiful Christmas story book
  • his first piggy bank
And a few other little toys and clothes.

We then also had his first Christmas bauble, a personalised stocking and we got matching family pjs which was really cute for a picture on Christmas morning!

fallhappy1 · 12/10/2021 06:50

Ds2 was only 8 weeks old during his first Christmas and we just purchased things that he would eventually need. Clothes, baby walker and some pram toys. We did buy him a toddlers personalised cutlery set also.

These fleece wraps are brilliant, ideal for babies. I got one for my nephew and it was a huge hit.

Was gonna say this too.

I got one for my DS when he was about 6 months & was sad I hadn't seen it when he was first born.

IcedCoffeeAlways · 12/10/2021 21:36

@bluesky @MarshmallowsOnToast We had one of those too! They’re great!
