I’m very jealous, I love mince pies.
It’s a family tradition that we wait until I’m A Celebrity starts before we have our first mince pie, but I’m always so tempted to cheat and have one earlier.

goose1964 · 04/10/2021 23:00

We're not allowed to have them in those until after DS1's birthday at the end of November.

goose1964 · 04/10/2021 23:01

Those? The house

Jumpingintosummer · 05/10/2021 00:08

I am so jealous! 1st of November rule in our house. Halloween decorations down, mince pice, tea and a the Christmas edition of GH Xmas Grin

Silkieschickens · 05/10/2021 00:19

We had some a week or so ago and they were very nice. I will probably be sick of them by Christmas though Grin One person on MN told me it was too early Hmm, if they are selling them then clearly its reasonable to buy and eat them.

HarrietSchulenberg · 05/10/2021 00:52

Bought ones are OK this early, I guess, but proper home made ones can't be made or eaten till December, or Santa shits down your chimney.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2021 07:46

I made some at the weekend, so we've also been eating them! I make them in regular batches from now until Christmas!

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2021 07:47

Guess I'm looking forward to Santa shit then, @HarrietSchulenberg! Xmas Grin I don't eat bought ones (unless I'm elsewhere); I prefer my own!

Purplewithred · 05/10/2021 07:49

Well that’s it then. I am now powerless to resist. I blame you lot.

BaconAndAvocado · 05/10/2021 08:42

Going to try and hold out till November, never been done before and I saw and resisted some veritably excellent looking luxury ones in Aldi yesterday........

I heat one up in the oven, definitely not microwave, then add a large helping of extra thick double cream.
The heat with the cold and the juicy dried fruit......so darn good!

Then, nearer Christmas I buy Baileys flavoured cream and repeat the process.

languagelover96 · 05/10/2021 10:06

I saw a box of festive mince pies whilst in M and S doing a weekly food shop. Going to wait another few weeks and look at different varieties first.

Bontanics · 05/10/2021 15:03

I believe that mince pies should be available all year round like hot cross buns. So I'll take any opportunity to pick up a box when I see them hit the shelves again.

We've been on the mince pies recently too. I work in co-op, sometimes in the bakery, so had to save myself a pack now we are getting them in. They are so yummy 😋.

ShrikeAttack · 05/10/2021 15:45

I don't believe hot cross buns should be available all year round, Good Friday is the only acceptable day to eat them!

And no mince pies before the first Sunday in Advent.

Anything else will just lead to anarchy and the ultimate collapse of society.

🤣🤣

BaconAndAvocado · 06/10/2021 18:04

Mince pies and hot cross buns should definitely not be available all year round or I would be like the side of a house.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/10/2021 19:38

You lightweights Xmas Grin

Sainsbury Bakery Shortcrust Mince Pies have been available for a month ....... I might be ordering one pack each time in my order (apart from one week they didn't have them)

Bontanics · 06/10/2021 20:06

I'm sure they're late this year. Last year I took some camping on our summer holiday Sept 2020.

zebrapig · 06/10/2021 20:20

You're late to the party OP, some fell in my trolley a couple of weeks ago and didn't last two days!

UnfinishedBunting · 06/10/2021 20:28

I saw some in M&S earlier today! Surely it's too early. Maybe after Halloween 😄🤔.

SunshineCake1 · 06/10/2021 20:29

Dh made some yesterday as I had made mincemeat a for this years pies and we still had mincemeat left from last year. Very nice they were too.

Jeremyspoke · 06/10/2021 20:34

I made 14 on Sunday and they've all gone, there are only 3 of us here Blush

Hairwizard · 14/10/2021 16:09

I cant wait for the baileys extra thick cream. I have it in my coffee and i put it on warmed mince pies.
Want to try making some this year but not with pre made pastry, would like to make my own pastry. Any one any swear by recipes??
