Switch - buy soon or hold on for a deal

I’ve seen switch consoles are quite easy to get currently, presumably due to the updated console coming out. Should I buy now or will there be deals to be had closer to Christmas?
I was hoping to use my ‘Christmas Clubcard saver’ vouchers at Tesco but can’t see how to check how much I have in vouchers which is a bit annoying and I get them in November.

I'm hoping the older switch will drop further in price once the new switch is out (which is on the 5th I think).

Mmmh who knows! I got ours two years ago, and it was bought and packed away at Oct half term. I like peace of mine.

If its for kids I personally wouldn't want to be leaving it until Black Friday this year. I know people in the past on here have got deals via Very by opening up an account at the same time. Smyths might be worth looking at, I'm sure they have done console and a game for a cheaper bundle price.

I got ours from John Lewis as you get an extra years' warranty and that was worth it for me.

I'm prepared to eat my words but I really can't believe prices will drop significantly. When is the new console out?

We pre ordered the new one. 10% off using a student discount. I wouldnt hold off on any must haves this year

PaperDolphin · 03/10/2021 19:32

I was just thinking similar about some bits for my kids. To be honest I don't think there will be a lot of deals to be had this year with shortages etc. I think I am just going to buy...

Oh I'm wondering this too. I have already bought my son something fairly expensive for Christmas that he hasn't asked for but think he would like.

He then said last week he would like the Switch Lite and a mario game for Xmas. I can't decide whether to get the Switch console or Switch Lite second hand or buy new. I'm thinking the Switch console would be better than the Lite. Prices haven't really dropped that much second hand though.

Hotukdeals have some deals on them just now. £238 for the console. They are selling on FB marketplace for £200 ish.

I also have a £20 odd Very code so could order the new Oled version for about £290!

I'm am too indecisive!

Nintendo don’t really do deals. Even the games hold their value after years. It’s just the way they work.
Best thing is to look for a bundle with a game that they will definitely want. Games are usually £35-50.
If your dc wants a switch, buy it now. They really are good.
If you can afford the standard model go for that one. The Lite has a lot of limitations over the original. Being able to remove the joycons gives so much more flexibility.

I had the same dilemma and decided to get it early in case there are delivery or supply problems later. I got this deal, www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nintendo-switch-grey-console-improved-battery-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword-64gb-samsung-evo-plus-ps27047-with-code-at-jd-williams-3797948
but I changed it to the Neon version and the Animal Crossing game.

EvilRingahBitch · 04/10/2021 08:54

Definitely leave it for at least a week until the new one has come out. After that I'd be tempted to go for peace of mind.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 04/10/2021 09:07

I'm wondering this too. Or whether to order the new one and such up the price difference.....I think I'm gonna hold out for black Friday for an old one BUT keep tracking. Mine haven't asked for it specifically but they will love it.

psuedocream3 · 04/10/2021 09:41

The switch has already been lowered in price inline with the new one coming out so I doubt there will be much further reductions if any. If it's what they've asked for I would just buy it, it's not worth the risk over £5-£10 possible saving to risk either not getting one at all due to no stock or increased prices inline with demand, in my opinion. From memory Amazon usually just do bundles rather than discounts on consoles only, so maybe they will add a couple of games and accessories in that you wouldn't have necessarily bought.

@Teawithnosugar The best time to get a like new switch or switch lite is on Prime day when they do their 30% off amazon warehouse offer. The like new switch lites were brand new and around £122. There has been rumours of another Prime day later this year but again if it's something they have asked for I wouldn't risk it.
