Sorry I know there has been loads of these but totally out of inspiration for my DS - he has a birthday and Xmas within a week. He likes but doesn’t love lego so will get some Harry Potter lego and a few other Harry Potter things. Isn’t into football or clothes really but does a lot of drama. Has an iPad. He likes small toys ( hatchimals) and still into creative play, things like lockable diaries and does like board games. Most of his friends are girls ( not that I think that makes a difference!). I gave him the SMYTHs catalogue and he just circled a squishmallow!

His older brother has SEN and had very specific tastes/obsessions and not really into creative play or anything - this plus him being the youngest makes me worry I buy him older toys when he’s maybe still enjoy some younger ones? But maybe not!

Slightly different situation as my 7yo is a girl, but all we've got so far is a new scooter! She's desperate for a metal detector but I don't think that'll be happening. Last year she got a camera (Vtech one), the year before it was a karaoke microphone.

She'll probably be getting a mix of Lego, books, jigsaw puzzles, board/card games (Game of Life, Top Trumps), something arts and crafts-y. There's a company called SmartGames on Amazon who do 1-player logic puzzle type games, but they're quite expensive.

It's a tricky age, I think, or at least it is for us! Her 3yo brother is so much easier to buy for...

Would he like an Echo Dot or similar in his room? Can be useful to talk to you from upstairs (assuming you already have one downstairs) and for help with homework etc, as well as to wake up in the morning etc.
My 7 year old boy has asked for a go kart, a laptop, a telescope, a microscope, nerf guns, and teddies!

Kidizoom camera
Vtech marble rush
Coding critters

Ds is 7 a few weeks before Christmas.
Will be getting some more police Playmobil to go with his existing set. A Bruder police land rover, a combine harvester and grain silo for his farm. A rugby ball or basketball and hoop, need to think of some smaller bits. He has asked for a drone. I was going to get him a nerf gun but he saw them in the smyths catalogue and expressed quite a strong dislike and opinion on them, which is a first. He also isn’t a big Lego fan. He got Battleships game last year and absolutely loves it, Jenga is loved. Would Junior Monopoly be any good?

Ricekrispie22 · 03/10/2021 07:13

Just remembered this spy kit

I got my 7yo DD a Nintendo Switch with Animal Crossing on it. She loves it! There are lots of fun games - we are just discovering Lego Jurassic World!

There are some fun sciency-toys targeted at that age group too.

Knex, gravitrax, scalextrix, Tom Gates books, fitbit and hama beads all a hit for similar age dc here

Life ryder scooter. Best buy we ever made. Can use on rough forest paths or normal paths. Both my boys have them and are used almost every day. They have 3 height settings so should last years.

Hoverboard
Nintendo switch
Amazon alexa
Kindle fire
Football/ football net
Bastket ball net (smyths do one around 40)

My 7 year old is getting a metal detector

Beakerandbungle · 03/10/2021 08:07

Thanks everyone! Metal detectors seem popular!

He does have an echo dot which he loves as loves music and audio books. He actually had a switch lite from his dad but never used it so I resold it!

He is always asking to take photos on my phone so camera might be a good one!

Battleships is a good call! And he needs a new scooter so will take a look.

He’s much more difficult to buy for them his brother! Also because lots of his interests/likes tend to have quite strong ‘girl’ branding, and he’s starting to get a bit self conscious about this ( no matter what I say!). Plus the birthday just before Xmas makes it even more difficult!

Did just think he loves bath bombs so that’s something else!

Would he like games for the garden? My son doesn't like football, but we've had loads of use out of our tennis net, pop up basketball net and archery set (all Decathlon).

My son is 8 this month so between then and Christmas will be getting:

Pokemon stuff
Books (lots of!)
Switch game or two
A couple of board games and a jigsaw (Zatu games have a fab selection that aren't just in Smyths/Argos etc)
Nerf guns
Minecraft Lego
Either a new onesie or oodie from Next (google Next kids fleece poncho)

Beakerandbungle · 03/10/2021 18:57

Definitely a onesie. An archery set is a good idea too - our garden is small but that would work and I think he might like it. Thanks Smile

What about a fitbit? Thinking of maybe getting my boys (twins, nearly 7) these, but wondering if they’re too young yet?

xmasdealhunter · 04/10/2021 15:15

would something like this link appeal? You have to unlock it, and it's got the similar 'unboxing' aspect as a hatchimal

MinnieMountain · 04/10/2021 17:05

Beano or other comic subscription?

InvincibleInvisibility · 16/10/2021 08:10

Mine is getting a detective set, joke book, paint by numbers, survival guide, various prehistoric books

Breadstick25 · 16/10/2021 08:25

Mine has just turned 7 and his gifts included:
Table football (a fold up one to save space)
Mini drone (which he loves!)
Harry Potter game for Switch
Harry Potter dress up cloak, socks etc (H&M has loads of nice stuff and Boots has an HP bath/toiletries range)
Bop It game
