I like to do a book advent for my child. She's coming up to 4 and Indonesia to add some more books to it. Any favourites?

I'm starting this this year too! Have a look at books for bugs website, some bargain £1 Xmas books on there. I got "The night before the night before Christmas" last year it's brilliant.

How Winston Delivered Christmas: A Christmas Story in Twenty-Four-and-a-Half Chapters by Alex T Smith.

Read a chapter every night in December, with a short conclusion on Christmas Day. There's an activity suggestion between each chapter too - we never actually did any (my DC aren't at all crafty) but they looked pretty good!

A second one is being published in October as well.

Some of the Paddington Christmas books are lovely. (I can't remember exact names as we passed them all on last year)

Lucy and Tom’s Christmas is IMO lovely for this sort of age. Old fashioned, but beautifully detailed, full colour illustrations.

The Jolly Christmas Postman (The Jolly Postman)

I love Lucy and Tom’s Christmas. Alfie’s Christmas is lovely, too. Agree with suggestions above of Christmas on Exeter Street, Mog’s Christmas, Jolly Christmas Postman, The Empty Stocking; anything by Raymond Briggs.

DD also loved Katie’s London Christmas, and Little Grey Rabbit’s Christmas.

Melrose and Croc Together at Christmas is really lovely and almost brings a tear to my eye when I read it to my reception class.

My kids love a book called 'A present for Father Christmas' about a little boy who wants to get santa a gift, but doesn't know what to get. It's a pop up book. I got it for my son when he was about 4 and he is now 13 and still loves it!! My 8 year old also loves it. I've had to rebuy it cos they tore some of the pop ups when they were younger.

ChristmasLightsAndSparkles · 02/10/2021 13:33

Thank you so much for telling us about the second 'Winston' book whatsagoodusername!!

DD(8) and I both loved the first one last year, and also really enjoyed doing the craft activities so I've pre-ordered the new one How Winston Came Home for Christmas due out 28th October.

Fredthefrog · 02/10/2021 15:53

Thanks. Some great suggestions. I have lot of more classic ones like mog and a couple of nutcracker stories but a few that's not my elf types that she has grown out of so good to get different ones to swap in.
