Here we go people! Smile

I thought we could start reading the Introduction from October 15th at a gentle pace to allow people to join the thread. Then all set for Chapter 1 on November 1st.

The Christmas Chronicles is currently just over £20 on Amazon. Maybe people could share all the options for those who are just joining us, who still want to get a copy.

I'm hoping this thread will be a lovely, gentle, uplifting transition into the Christmas period where we can share our thoughts, recipe attempts and inspiration from Nigel x

Oh I love that little house! 😊😊

It felt lovely and crisp here today too, although we haven’t had any frost yet. 🎄🎄

groundcontroltomajormum · 02/11/2021 19:27

We dont drink. Is it still worth getting the book? Lots of chat here about booze recipes in the book.

Dillidilly · 02/11/2021 19:35

@groundcontroltomajormum we are only on the first chapter, which was about seasonal drinks...there are plenty of food recipes to come x

If you like Christmas, you'll like the book. Smile

Do any of you follow Nigel on Instagram? Beautiful photos, more moments of escapism.

Yes! Just been looking at his garden!

If anyone is interested Nigel is on Food Network tonight 7pm Nigel Slaters Twelve Tastes of Christmas, he travels to Norway too Grin

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 03/11/2021 10:38

Oh thank you! I’m sure I’ve seen that before and liked it a lot. Pencilling it in for 7pm! 🎄

Yes I follow Nigel on Instagram too. Beautiful photos.

Asda brandy and muscatel purchased. I hesitated over libefrumilch, which used to he a favourite of mine but wasn't sure how that would turn out. Plan to make the first batch later (making for my parents as well as the inlaws now)

Geamhradh · 03/11/2021 13:05

Here's mine.
€6 "brandy" and a bottle of cheap moscato wine. They make it here so it's literally as cheap as a pint of milk.

Husband informed me this morning that we are going to need a second batch of the apricot brandy 😂 one will not be enough! Planning to have another glass or two on bonfire night when I’ll make the first food recipe.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 03/11/2021 13:23

@Geamhradh just saw you live in Italy. How wonderful! I lived there for a year when I was young(er) and absolutely loved it.

If I had EB Christmas mugs I’d definitely want to use them all year round too! 🥰🥰 They’re on my ‘someday’ wish list...

I’m sorry btw if I don’t always reply straightaway, or at all, when people have directed a comment at me - I have processing issues (likely undiagnosed inattentive ADHD) and my mind is always half elsewhere. So I don’t ever mean to seemingly ignore but i might inadvertently do so...I also have a habit of flipping threads for ease and only reading the last few comments each time I check a thread so that I can half keep up until I have a chance up to properly read through, so I don’t always see all comments in order. Then by the time I see that someone’s said something to me I feel too embarrassed at the delay so I don’t know whether to reply or not.🙄🙄

That sounds lovely but I don't think I have the Food Network channel. Christmas and Norway .
FireworkParrot · 03/11/2021 14:09

Oh I will definitely record that on Food Network tonight.

Apricot brandy made here too. Smells divine, now just to leave it for a few weeks.....

I've just read the 1st Nov chapter and added the ingredients for the apricot brandy and apple drink to next weeks food order. It sounds wonderful, although I don't like dried fruits so hoping to palm them off on the husband, despite Nigel making the sound so tempting!

I'm loving how this book is broken down to be so manageable, just a few pages every few days. I bought a copy for a friend who loves Christmas and I'm going to give it to her tonight as an early Christmas present!

ExcessivelyDisorganised · 03/11/2021 14:58

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule not a problem at all re replies, I think most of us dip in and out and don't always read every post of every thread we're on, if I address someone and they don't reply I just assume they didn't see the post and no harm done.

I think we have Food Network Smile

WomanWomenGirlsFemale · 03/11/2021 15:31

Taytocrisps can you get Freeview as it's on there too ?

WomanWomenGirlsFemale · 03/11/2021 15:37

He's also on at 7pm on Thursday N S Christmas Suppers
Friday at 2-3 am NS Simple Suppers ( a very early morning treat Grin)
Friday at 7pm NS Simple Cooking Christmas
I'm sure he'll be on next week as well GrinWink
All on Food Network

No need to apologise, you're fast becoming one of my favourite MNers!

Not Nigelly, but I just took possession of A Child's Christmas in Wales and A Literary Christmas.

Felldownabackdonhole · 03/11/2021 21:29

I started reading my book today as I am off work I’ll (ironically I am struggling to eat anything). I really want to make gnudi. They found so delicious.

Felldownabackdonhole · 03/11/2021 22:02

Did anyone used to watch Nigel on taste of my life. It was on years ago when I was at uni. I loved that program. He used to get people to tell their life stories through food.
