I spend around £7.99 on a bottle of wine each. We only have one teacher and assistant.

Hulababy · 06/12/2007 13:26

£5 to £10 on individual teacher.

I tend to look for something that is drinkable or edible, so they don't have loads of bits to take home and find homes for. Unless I can find something particularly nice, but not had time this year.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 06/12/2007 13:27

A decentish wine never fails to impress and it saves thinking about it too!

expatinscotland · 06/12/2007 13:27

This year they are each getting one of those individual bottles of champers, a hand-painted tealight holder from a local art gallery, a small bag of homemade truffles and fudge and a card made by DD1.

About £8/each but there are only 2 teachers and one assistant.

foxythesnowman · 06/12/2007 13:30

I do Oxfam Unwrapped at Christmas. 200 school dinners, a feeling of great virtue and they wouldn't complain about that, would they?

Besides, there's 5 school teachers, 5 nursery teachers. A goat is cheaper

sugar34plum · 06/12/2007 13:30

i buy a box of lovely biscuits for them to share. i have 5 kids 1 has sn and 1 is at pre school so couldnt buy individual would cost me a fortune!

bagpuss · 06/12/2007 13:31

I'm getting ours a lush bath bomb each . I do have 5 to buy for though. In the summer they got considerably more. I may also get some nice biscuits for the staff room too, I haven't decided.

5GoldenFIMBOs · 06/12/2007 13:31

As little as possible. I usually go to Lidl and buy a box of shortbread.

bonkerzaboutxmas · 06/12/2007 13:32

OComeOLIVEfaithfOIL · 06/12/2007 13:32

I take a tin of Roses in to the GP surgery, a box of chocolates for the postman, homemade liqueurs and baked goods for the neighbours, etc.

It's a gesture of good will .

expatinscotland · 06/12/2007 13:35

Lidl is brilliant for such gifts, Come.

And they also have tins of Quality Street and Roses on sale.

Toblerone bars, too.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 06/12/2007 13:36

Hav you got a lollipop man/lady Olive? Don't forget them either..

andiemisletoe · 06/12/2007 13:36

I am class rep and I have bought 2 body shop gift sets and all parents are contributing £1 each I don't see the need for the teachers to get a present from every child

LadyMuck · 06/12/2007 13:38

Kick your class rep until they agree to a whip-round. Get this sorted in reception and it will save you hassle way down the line. Ds1's teacher (22) is getting a digital camera.

LadyMuck · 06/12/2007 13:38

Cross-post. We may have spent more than £1 per pupil...

Roobie · 06/12/2007 13:39

We all chuck in £2 each and the class rep gets a present for the teacher and assistant - so works out at £30 per present.

OComeOLIVEfaithfOIL · 06/12/2007 13:39

class rep? never heard of him/her

lollipop woman gets a 2 second look as I drive past in my car , so no present for her

OP posts:
andiemisletoe · 06/12/2007 13:40

we are obviously mean I only spent £15 per present but saying that some parents still haven't coughed up

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 06/12/2007 13:40

The Staff Code of Conduct at our school says that gifts should not be of any 'significant value, generally not exceeding £10'

Mind you, it also says that an employee must not have a relationship with their line manager, which is unfortunate for our cleaner who is married to the Site Controller. (When I mentioned this to her, she said "I'll never have to have a headache again"

HappyMummyOfOne · 06/12/2007 19:34

Have spent about £12 each on the teacher and TA and a bit less on the 2 afterschool club staff.

Dont think we have a class rep to do a collection.

NotCod · 06/12/2007 19:39

i thought it waqs only me who doesnt haev a class rep

cna you imahgine a worse job?

NotCod · 06/12/2007 19:41
