I fear I am going to be known as the tight parent. Bought reception teacher and the TA a bottle of reduced wine and box of those shell chocs each (but not even the Guerlain(sp?) ones!) from ......Lidl

Christmas is just costing me too much at the mo to spend any more

well my kids are at SN school they have one teacher and two TAs, my girls are in the same class so i will be giving gifts to those six staff plus a tin of heros for the staff room and something for the office and kitchen staff then theres the school bus driver and escort, i think i will be making some bubble bath!

serinsingingcarols · 06/12/2007 23:04

Have just bought them all a bottle of bubble bath that said there are loads of them 5 teachers, 3 TA's and receptionist, then music teachers too.

Wrapped them all up on Sunday night and was woken by DS2 (age 5) on Monday morning who said father Christmas has been and all the presents are for you..........He'd unwrapped the whole lot!!

Alambil · 07/12/2007 10:31

I got a box of biscuits in M&S for £4 - they can share that out and it didn't cost a lot (bonus for me!)

Alambil · 07/12/2007 10:32

OJ - how do you make bubble bath?

nappyaddict · 07/12/2007 10:51

do you all get your kids teacher a present?

Eowyn · 07/12/2007 10:56

I'm another for Lush bath bombs this year, I've never met the TA & only spoken to the teacher once, we are no longer allowed to deliver them to their classrooms so there is much less interaction than in previous years, thus I feel less obligated.

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 07/12/2007 11:05

I reckon I've spent about £60 on the teacher so far this year.

But then I am married to him

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 07/12/2007 11:07

BTW I think buying Christmas presents for teachers is lovely if you want to do it, but don't worry if you can't be bothered/can't afford it. A handmade card from the child means more to my DH than any expensive present. Though he did receive 3 cans of Lidl lager and a packet of wine gums in a brown paper bag from the hardest kid in the year once, which was memorable.

Oh MellowMa, what a present to give your SIL Do you think she will retaliate with a bottle of extra strength cellulite lotion?

Julezboo · 07/12/2007 11:19

The parents are clubbing together £10 each for our classes teachers, they have 2 teachers (job share) and 2 assisants so we are gonna get them vouchers, saves them getting overwhelmed with chocolates!!

Her 30th! PMSL

BettySpaghetti · 07/12/2007 11:41

I usually go for the safe option (a bottle of wine) plus something homemade by DD (eg white chocolate and cranberry fudge) -that way it seems DD has put some thought and effort in plus they have something to drink which I'm sure they all need by Christmas!

robinpud · 07/12/2007 11:53

Dh has come home from school today with large bag of chillo tortilla chips amongst his pressies!

As a teacher, I am constantly embarassed by the expenditure and would prefer a book for the classroom or handmade card type thing. But then I'm wierd!

nappyaddict · 07/12/2007 12:45

wardrobe - do you buy for people like postman, dustbin man, doctors etc instead? i know people who do this. i think it's mental personally.

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 07/12/2007 12:49

I have got DS's one-to-one LSA a little Body Shop gift pack.. because, frankly she deserves a nice present for putting up the little shoite day in day out...!

The other 5 staff gifts I need to buy (re DD and DS2) are less extravagant...

Roll on secondary school when you don't have to bother any more because it isn't the "done thing"..

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 07/12/2007 12:54

I just got 3 small boxes of chocs in a 3 for £5 offer. He has 2 part-time teachers and full time TA.

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 07/12/2007 12:58

I stopped buying small boxes of chocs a few years ago when I was a school govenor and was able to evesdrop on staff room chat, when a majority admitted to getting so many small boxes of cheap chocolats that most of them got dumped!

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 07/12/2007 13:15

lol - my mum was an infant teacher for years and her best presents were the chocs - I mean wtf do you do with assorted tatty ornaments??
Unless said person is on a diet, and even then there is presumably someone who would appreciate it - even if they give it on as a small gift - then I don't see how you can go wrong with a small box of roses or a packet of matchmakers or similar.
