100 mile socks are my favourites.

YesILikeItToo · 25/09/2021 21:38

1000 miles! 100 miles would be a poor performance in a sock, tbh.

SkiRun0077 · 25/09/2021 21:39

I like the balega socks £10 a pair, hubbie liked the rundawear boxers I got him. He runs a lot miles said they are good.

AuntieStella · 26/09/2021 07:25

Stance

Actually, all the main brands of running sock are good, but Stance have the best patterns/designs/colours

stance.eu.com

Sealskinz if he's a trail runner and you think he might like waterproof

Another little treat is Safety Skin

www.safetyskinproducts.com

which is like a stick deodorant, but the stuff that comes out is highly reflective. Good for dark winter runs and it shows up really well (and washes easily off skin and out of clothes )

Laney39 · 26/09/2021 07:37

I made a running hamper one year. Put in socks, running gels, a new top, under armour boxers and long sleeve under armour vest. Running gloves and hat. I also bought a book. Looked quite good all wrapped up

Autumngoldleaf · 26/09/2021 08:57

Oh something really brilliant ideas thank you!
I didn't even know know they did special under wear for runners
I'll try the three sock recommended then he can see which he prefers, he tends to stop as much in winter though so will look into the long tops he doesn't like the Cold

Thanks for the tips, have just ordered balega socks and underwear

GreatPotato · 26/09/2021 10:11

This is my specialist subject!

I quite like Under Armour, but actually, after 15 years of research the ones Lidl sell are my favourites. I stock up whenever they have them.

1000 Mile are OK but very expensive and have loads of different kinds so you need to be careful which ones you go for. Some are too thick/warm. You actually don't want thick socks in winter, they're very heavy when wet!

unexpectedthird · 26/09/2021 10:31

I also like the 1000 miles one and I have a pair of balega that have lasted me years and years and years.

I have some twin skin socks too that are great.

A lot will depend on whether they prefer socks that are just one layer or two - I like both so I'm not much help really.

Decathlon do really good running underwear if you're not wanting to pay runderwear prices too!

Body glide is a stocking size essential IMO but it depends on whether he's a distance runner or not.

I always preferred the Tribe bars to the gels and stuff on the market as they are less chemically and were easier on my tummy. They used to do a subscription box but I'm not sure if they still do. Hi5 electrolyte tablets are great as well.

(Is it wrong that I feel virtuous and athletic even though I'm typing this hiding in my bed having just eaten a pain au chocolat? No running here today. Grin )

Autumngoldleaf · 26/09/2021 10:39

He does long runs, like today about 10miles

Schittme · 27/09/2021 14:40

I run anything up to half marathon distance and love my Balega socks. Very cushiony.

Autumngoldleaf · 01/10/2021 19:59

Thank you!
I think I might get him a few different types as it's his bday soon as well then he can also decide which ones are best in future. Any more ideas?

body glide anti chaffing gel

ElBurro · 02/10/2021 06:15

Squirrels nut butter and the pixel Beryl light are both good running gifts Smile

BikeRunSki · 02/10/2021 06:26

My favourite running socks for winter are thin merino wool ones, mine are from Howies or Pearl Izumi. Just the right warmth (wet or dry)below about 5 degrees.

delilahbucket · 02/10/2021 08:07

1000 miles socks, but specifically the running ones that have a double layer. Some are for hiking and they are too thick. I love Decathlon for kit, their clothing is brilliant. They had fleece lined tops and bottoms which are great in winter, and lightweight hats which keep the chill off without being too hot. Running gloves are good too.

Autumngoldleaf · 02/10/2021 12:46

Umm, what's the pixel beryl light for Confused I imagined it was a head lamp for seeing in the dark but it's a stick on light?

Magnesium to put in the bath afterwards, plus nice fleece-lined joggers to put on after bath. And cashmere bed socks. Runners' feet are AWFUL so it's nice to put nice soft socks on after a bath.

AuntieStella · 02/10/2021 13:39

On a foot related note, I have a tube of Eucerin foot repair cream and I think it's very good.

Also maybe arnica based massage oil

chillimice · 02/10/2021 17:29

Thanks for all the ideas!

DP has just asked for a ciele running hat as he can't justify buying one himself plus a new running belt (any suggestions anyone?!) He's loved fleece lined running leggings and buffs in the past as running presents

AuntieStella · 02/10/2021 17:32

My favourite running belt by a long way is a flipbelt - I prefer the ones with the zip compartment.

Otherwise get a spibelt, or another make that looks like one.

ElBurro · 02/10/2021 17:53

The light can be attached to pretty much anything OP, it has a clip which I stick on my jacket.

ElBurro · 02/10/2021 17:54

Sorry, it’s not for seeing, but so that cars can see you!
