My friend's DD got a princess laptop for her birthday. It's for preschoolers, costs £30 but my DD saw it and decided she wanted one for Christmas. I managed to put her off by saying she's too old for it. (She's 5) Now another friend's DD has a Barbie laptop. It's hideous and totally shit, but DD thinks she'd like one and my mum and dad said they'd buy her it for Christmas, but it really is not worth the money (£50 )I don't like Barbie at the best of times, but this thing is the pits. It's pretending to be educational, but asks them to spell things like CHEF and SAILOR in capitals ffs.
I'd like them to be able to get her an electronic game thing, but I'd like it to be at least vaguely educational. Any ideas? Is there even such a thing?

£50!!! For a heap of shite! You could look around for a secondhand 'real' laptop - there are loads of free or cheap games that she could then play. I can't stand the way toy companies rip you off for this supposedly 'educational' stuff that is just badly-made plastic tat that won't last three months. Stick to your guns on this one.

The V-tech laptops are fantastic. Look like a real laptop with working mouse and mousepad. So much stuff we have had it for 12 months and not even scratched the surface of what it does-maths, spelling, geography and so much more. called V tech advance-in argos etc and cost about 40. DD5 is 4 (and I am 35 and love it too!)

Sorry, DD1 is 5 (having a mad moment there)

I have seen these in toys r us and i think it is scandalous what they charge for utter shit.I must tell you that i got a downgraded version for my nieces at asda.....barbie fairytopia laptop(not as flashy as the 50 quid one] 75% off so i got em for £5 each

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought about that. She uses my laptop sometimes, but would love her own.I'll have to see how much one might cost. I actually bought the Barbie one, but having now tried it, it's SO much worse than I even thought possible, so am definitely taking it back.

Thanks for your help everyone. Wolveschick -will check that one out. The princess one was v-tech, but didn't realise there wer others.
Have thought about getting a good game to go on mine, but my mum and dad would like her to be excited when she actually opens the present - wow factor for spoilt granddaughter idea. Think she might not quite 'get' the game thing.
