Being prepared in case of shortages

We have an artificial tree. I have wrapping paper and sellotape and stocking gifts all sorted plus some potential big gifts just in case that I will roll over for birthdays if we can get what they ask Santa for nearer the time. I also have bought crackers and tree chocolates. Not concerned re Turkey as any roast dinner would do. What else haven’t I thought of that I might be sad not to have if there are shortages?
(Caveat - I know of the shelves are bare then Christmas is the least important thing, and o know that we are lucky to be able to afford this in advance)

Which website please? And can you share your basket of the other 38 items with us Smile
VanillaSpiceCandle · 28/09/2021 23:48

@lovescats3 thank you! Hope you do too Smile

Now I want florentines. Think it could be a dangerous addition to my Christmas!

speakout · 29/09/2021 08:09

I'm not concerned.
I haven't started christmas shopping yet- but I am flexible.
No chidren to shop for, and tons of wrapping paper in the loft.
No one is desperate for a "must have" gift, and we really don't mind what we eat.
We will make a lovely day with whatever is available.

@LostforWords2021 Grin there might be some 25% off wine in there!

It's the Asda website

[quote lovescats3]Cravey and Vanilla spice candle - i can't get the daffodil emoji to come up so

BiddyPop · 29/09/2021 15:36

Actually, as part of prepping for winter here (given the increasing talk of threats of power brownouts etc), I am going to make sure I have a good few candles. And that there will be some LOVELY ones in that collection.

(and make sure I don't put away my camping solar panel kit - to be able to recharge my torches and lanterns in the daytimes, so we can have lovely atmospheric light Grin when needed)

We're getting our turkey this weekend, our local Tesco's has had them in and there selling out ridiculously fast

DappyApple · 03/10/2021 14:44

The only thing I’m concerned for is Christmas dinner and my Christmas decorations and trees. The rest of it can go whistle. Kids are adults now so no must have presents on the list.

I have a turkey in the freezer left over from last year (ended up with 3) and I’m looking to get a new artificial tree for my kitchen as the one I have is just a tad too big, but if I don’t get one no big deal. I’ll make do with what I have!

I’ll just take it as it comes.

sueelleker · 03/10/2021 15:07

I was eyeing up frozen turkeys last week..... then I remembered that we live 5 miles away from a turkey farm! Panic over
Can you get birds direct from them though, or do they all go to wholesalers/supermarkets?

Whatwillbewilbe · 03/10/2021 17:12

I have an M and S order for Christmas dinner to be collected on the 23rd. However, I have a complete Tesco Finest backup dinner in the freezer, just in case anything goes wrong with the M and S order. I do this every year Blush. The way I look at it is, it"s just food, it will get eaten at some point. (I've never once been let downby M and S Grin)

DroopyClematis · 04/10/2021 09:46

Thank to posters who have reminded me of Aldi's florentines .
I left it too late last year and they'd all gone 😱

Will pop out this week.

Not a sight of any frozen turkeys yet in my local Morrison's, Tesco or Sainsbury's and I'm sure they're usually in by now.

I'm buying things like pickles, sauces and side bits now and have bought a few presents.

To those on this thread who have been a bit chippy... some folk love Christmas and find comfort and solace planning their lovely Christmases, some folk cannot afford to buy everything at the last minute and some folk just hate leaving things til the last minute as often what they need has probably gone.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 04/10/2021 10:07

I can't buy florentines or mini stollens or anything else nice because someone in the house always eats them immediately.

(I live alone.)

Our Aldi had frozen turkeys in on Thursday when I went in.

Also to others who buy their pigs in blankets ready prepped, just heard on the radio that these are one of the things may be in short supply this year.
So might be wise to get them whilst you can and freeze them.

I usually make my own so best start looking for cocktail sausages despite my earlier “I’ll take it as it comes”
DC’s would never forgive me if We don’t have them.

I shall order the smallest turkey from M&S. I still don’t know where we’ll be eating but most of the family is veggie or vegan, so it’s entirely possible that dh and I will have it on Boxing Day and eat it all ourselves. None of it will be wasted, before anyone wonders. None of it ever is.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 05/10/2021 09:28

I've made sure to buy extra toys for our local Christmas toy appeal (for the kids hit hardest by the shit sandwich which is UK life right now). Ditto festive food for the foodbank.
This is, to me, the best way to mitigate the difficulties caused by any shortages.

Celestiel · 05/10/2021 18:17

Tesco app is now showing frozen turkeys - local store had mostly empty freezers (more than usual, considering..) - not sure if they are preparing to put Christmas stuff out soon?
