The whole Christmas event at Colchester Zoo is highly recommended.

Christmas at the zoo

van hagues garden centre in ware, herts - you can go on the train ride after seeing santa and there are reindeer!

prufrock · 05/12/2007 20:16

Audley eND - Santa in the woods after a ride on a real minature steam train.

havalina · 05/12/2007 20:18

I'm sure they have a special santa train ride on the St Albans branch line, don't know when it is but Dp has mentioned it once or twice.

That was the one we were going to try this year, but wanted to go this weekend and weather is said to be bad....

Im confused,,is the zoo open? Do you pay to get in zoo, then to see santa???

Van Hage in Ware gets my vote too. Just been there today with dcs. Apart from the Santa visit, they have a lovely section with animatronic polar bears - kids love it.

hertsnessex · 05/12/2007 20:22

oh yes, my boys love the polar bears.

audlet end is good too.

this yr we are off to UK Lapland - woohooo! (before the boys stop believing!)

mindermummy · 05/12/2007 20:24

I just looked on audley end site and no mention of santa in the woods or train ride???

Mindermummy - as I recall, the Zoo is open as usual, but access to the animals is restricted after dark, so you can't expect to see them all, as it's a full day out even without the Christmas stuff.

mindermummy · 05/12/2007 20:34

thanks; so do you pay for the entrance to get in and then pay again for santa???

Audley End website is out of date but worth caling them - it's really magical if it's on

toomanyshoes · 05/12/2007 22:17

I noticed that they are doing this at Epping and Ongar railway for the next 3 sundays. www.eorailway.co.uk Thought i might take DD, sounds lovely!

Willows Farm Village - looks absolutely brill online (expensive though - but a whole day out)

lizziemun · 05/12/2007 22:55

Not a train ride, But willow farm at london colney (jnct 21 on the M25) is quite good.

www.willowsfarmvillage.com

You only pay to enter and everything inside is free.

WHen you see santa you then go to the 'Santa Toyshop' to choose a gift.

It can be a whole day out.

mindermummy · 06/12/2007 07:58

Thanks for all your ideas.
They all sound great.
Unfortuantley i only have this weekend to go and the weather is said to rain non stop, so all options there are outside.#

Looks like it may be crews hill again!!!!
