Please help me choose a watch for my dsis for Christmas

She is 16, a bit emo in style. She prefers silver, trendy jewellery. She likes watches with thick straps.

As I am heading rapidly towards oldgimmerdom myself I have no idea what is trendy wrt styles/brands etc and the last thing I want do do is buy her something she won't like or would not wear.

I am looking to spend about £30.

Any ideas? Just a hint of which brands the kids are wearing atm would be a good start

Ayethankyew.

OK - have no idea whether this is the sort of thing, but I like the Mirage black one and the Zip one here.

SmileSam · 05/12/2007 19:54

Baby G are trendy. Next have some in a similar style.

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2007 19:55

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2007 19:57

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2007 19:58

TenLordsaLapin · 05/12/2007 19:59

Storm do both watches and jewellery

Necklace, 30 quid

Hmm watches a bit more expensive.

I hate to be boring, but I wouldn't dare buy anything like this for anyone except oh. Would it be safer to get her £30 topshop giftcard or something?

TenLordsaLapin · 05/12/2007 20:03

Weird and wonderful watch!

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 20:07

babyG not her thing SmileSam but thanks anyway

hmmm not sure about that one wabbit, I think she would prefer an analogue one (could be wrong though)

CloudAtlas - I am beginning to wonder if perhaps you are right - but I would prefer to buy her something more personal and Mum suggested a watch

She is a total sod to buy for though

JackieNoel's Zip Watch favourite atm

Zip watch looks good.

Get her the watch - vouchers are sooooo dull (although I am resorting to them this year for nieces and nephews - no time to source fab pressies and be great auntie, so I am going to bung them cash and be good auntie )

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 20:12

I used to love getting cash from aunties

A bit lame from a sister though

OP posts:
CloudAtlas · 05/12/2007 20:15

if she's that hard, she will DEFINITELY rather have vouchers, you could be thoughtful about where to get them from, and maybe have a day out spending them with her. Watches are a really personal thing, and if she isn;t mad about it, then she won;t wear it. I don't think it's lame at all. You could ask her now how she'd feel about vouchers so that she knows you're not just resorting to them at the last minute. bet she says YES YES and YES!!!

TenLordsaLapin · 05/12/2007 20:21

How about a watch on the proviso that you really really REALLY won't be offended if she loathes it and wants to swap it!

CloudAtlas · 05/12/2007 20:49

lol lapin! VOUCHERS!! NOT WATCH!! or you could make absolutely sure she can get her money back. I think the watches suggested here are a particular style and they won't appeal to EVERYONE.

HarkTheHassledAngelsSing · 05/12/2007 20:55

With my all-too-painfully extensive knowledge of teenagers (my oldest are 20 and 18) I can say without any hesitation that all teenagers ever actually want for Christmas is cash.

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 21:12

sorry, nipped off to have dinner

so cash then? Am a bit wary, we got her vouchers one year and she lost them whilst out shopping

OP posts:
TenLordsaLapin · 05/12/2007 21:18

Then go with her!

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 21:21

we live 200 miles apart

I will be seeing her over New Year but I am working every day other than NYD itself

I really wanted to get her something concrete rather than cash/vouchers - but may just go for cash and take her shopping later in the year.

OP posts:
TenLordsaLapin · 05/12/2007 21:21

Can you buy her something small but personal for a tenner and give her £20 instead?

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 21:29

yes I suppose that would be a good compromise...

I love that zip watch though but that doesn't mean that dsis will though will it?

She spends ages doing her hair/make up so could get her some expensive shampoo or something and a promisory note for a new watch as soon as we get chance to go shopping for one

CloudAtlas · 05/12/2007 21:34

if it's any help, I don;t like it! Meant in the most supportive way!

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 21:39

thanks CA
