What Christmas markets will you be attending this year?

Are Christmas markets on this year? What ones are you going to?

I don't usually like Christmas markets, not selling the stuff I'd ordinarily buy, but as last year was so flat, I may go along to soak up the atmosphere and have a mulled wine.

None any more, just largely overpriced tat and third-rate, rip-off mulled wine.

Local big garden centre is much better for all things Christmassy. Great place to take the Gdcs.

We'll probably go to Manchester, as much as anything for my grandchildren to have a look around, but I'm not letting DH buy enough cheese and salami to sink a battleship this year, wish me luck Grin. I may also go to Bristol with DD but that's more of a mooch around than intending to buy. There's also a chance I'll go to Cardiff, that one has loads of independent stalls, one year I bought a crochet ribbon necklace. It always gets a comment when I wear it.

@APurpleSquirrel

I like the idea of them, but often find the reality a disappointment. Just heard the Bath Christmas Market is cancelled, so might find a lot won't be happening.
Bath one isn’t cancelled. They’re going to lay it out different to other years

One in Kingston.

Same! I love the festive feeling but we end up just eating off the stalls and doing a few walk bys to see if we want to buy anything but nothing really jumps out - I think we may have bought some nice cheeses at the Exeter one but then it was freezing so we went and sat in the tent drunk mulled gin and listened to a band, which was nice.

I always big it up in my head though and I’m always disappointed by things like the roasted chestnuts, last time we got some I think they were less roasted more cremated and thick with black char 😂

I love the Cologne one, though it gets very busy, but not sure if it will take place this year. I quite fancy Nuremburg or Maastricht, and Valkenburg in the caves.

I think Bath is cancelled, I saw it reported last week. There was a suggestion to have it in Victoria Park which I am sad they rejected because I think it could have potential to be really nice up there with more space. Saying that I never go because it seems awful - nice idea badly implemented.

On the Bath Christmas market website it is saying it's cancelled, and that you can buy stuff online. Lincoln Christmas market is still going ahead at the moment. I would keep checking online for updates for any of them to be honest.

Just discovered that one takes place in Chester. Went to Chester last December but it was while the tiers were in place so very subdued. Would love to visit with a Christmas market! Will have to have words with the other half

EasterIssland · 21/09/2021 18:10

I misunderstood the news regarding the bath one the other day. Seems like they’ve been allowed to go ahead but not with the always shape but the market has decided not to. Which is a same. Tbh few times I’ve visited it , it was so crowded that sometimes it was too many people

York, but i live there so it's easy to get to Grin
