Who else still likes old fashioned Advent calendars? Just with little pictures?

Having never had any sort of Advent calendar as a child - I still buy myself a trad one every year. I feel a trip to John Lewis looming - they usually have a good selection. 🎄

I have just discovered the Richard Sellmer Verlag ones on Amazon. Lots of them have doors that open to reveal extra detail on the main picture. Some
favourites:

Santa Claus Workshop

Christmas Dreams

Christmas Market at the Castle

Fun with Sledging

Victorian Castle

Omg the Cotswold Trading website is gorgeous!
I love the Roger la Borde Christmas House advent calendar but there are so many beautiful ones!

Previously, I have bought German ones from Amazon- if you shop around you can find one for £6/7- but those Angela Harding ones are so beautiful- and far more virtuous to buy- that I might splash out this year.

(Now I’m off to flagellate myself for posting on a C- word thread in what is still, officially, summer 😬)

My mam always buys me a picture one (I'm 37 this year).

I did treat myself to a yankee candle advent calendar last year too since I was working at home and figured I would have some left over candles to enjoy and could enjoy using them when I was at home. Was contemplating getting another this year (from elsewhere).

The previous poster mentioned Erzgerbirge Palast - I love here! I bought a proper spinner when I went to a Christmas market in Dresden (my german friend always talked about them) and I've since bought a second from Erzgerbirge...and small candle arch and a nut cracker etc. My german friend actually recommended them to look at.

My DD had This treehouse one Last year.

I bought a Yankee Candle dupe last year from Home Bargains but didn’t get to use it as Covid wiped out my sense of smell.

It’s almost back to full capacity now so I’ll give it a go this year, along with my picture one!

The kids get the usual chocolate one each. But DH gets a traditional one every year (which I buy). And this is a huge deal!
Every morning we all cluster around stating what we think it will be, bauble, holy, star, bell, toy....the excitement! Whoever guesses the most right is the Christmas winner.
This is also done over the internet, he takes a pic every morning once everyone has their guessing. His friends and colleagues love it!

I usually always get my DC the traditional picture advent calendars - they love them!

VestaTilley · 18/09/2021 21:16

Me! Love them.

DS has been to little for chocolate ones this far, so we’ve had a religious picture one for several years. He’ll have a chocolate one this year, but we’ll always have a religious picture one too.
