Gaming chair
Gaming headset
Voucher for game shop if that's where he buys from
Lounge wear for when he's Gaming lol

Dearreader · 14/09/2021 22:15

A gift card from Game.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 14/09/2021 22:18

Tickets to a gaming match (believe big games perform for audiences) / comicon equivalent for gamers

katienana · 14/09/2021 22:19

A nice watch for his birthday. The no interest in learning to drive...I would really try to persuade him otherwise, there is no better time than when you're 18 (I did it when I was in my 20s and finally passed when I was pregnant with ds1!).
I've also been buying my own clothes for 20 years but I still get a jumper from my mum at Christmas!

Ted27 · 14/09/2021 22:21

I’m booking my son a helicopter trip in north wales.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 14/09/2021 22:21

Something random like him and pay for him and 3 mates to go to a shooting range or something (kinda like a real life call of duty)

Kuachui · 14/09/2021 22:23

Depends what he games on, voucher for his console? Steam voucher for pc,
New console gadget
Mini fridge for his room
Expensive aftershave
A new phone case
Gaming subscription box
New TV / monitor

Kuachui · 14/09/2021 22:23

Has he got friends? Experience days are great, paintballing or something

VestaTilley · 14/09/2021 23:06

Will he be going to uni (hopefully?) next year? If so then his own sets of crockery, pans, new clothes etc may be helpful?

WeAllHaveWings · 14/09/2021 23:13

If he doesn't like sports (I am assuming you mean footie and the like) would he like to try the gym/weights/pull up bar or splash out on some PT sessions?

ImNotReallyHere · 14/09/2021 23:53

Following as have similar DS 17.
Everything he would like is beyond budget - new laptop/ smart watch.
Only ideas I have are:

Sound bar for TV
Costa vouchers
Travel mug as he keeps stealing mine

mattcockhand · 17/09/2021 13:35

Thanks all. He also has HFA which adds to the difficulties. His idea at the moment is to go out for a birthday lunch somewhere nice....on his own!!!

Which games does he like? Qwertee has t-shirts that are often game themed but are a bit more grown up than the standard character stuff you get for kids.

DinosaurOfFire · 17/09/2021 13:54

What games does he like? There are probably enough of us gamers on mumsnet to help you with ideas once we have an idea of genre etc.

What gaming equipment does he use- is it a PC, or console? And what is your budget?

Pc upgrades are hard to find at the moment but something like an improved Graphics card (although these are expensive and you would need to check compatability with his case and other pc components like motherboard etc)

Would he like a second monitor or a mechanical keyboard, there are some very nice gaming mice out there with programmable buttons if he is currently using a standard mouse- these can be quite expensive for a really decent one, maybe £60 or more, but can make gaming a seamless experience with shortcuts etc. Does he stream, or play online with friends, as if so maybe a really good set of noise cancelling Bluetooth headphones with an inbuilt mic, such as the Sony WH-1000MX4 ones www.johnlewis.com/sony-wh-1000xm4-noise-cancelling-wireless-bluetooth-nfc-high-resolution-audio-over-ear-headphones-with-mic-remote/black/p5100480 which might be reduced on black friday in some places.

NuffSaidSam · 17/09/2021 13:57

Cash?

Surely everyone likes that.

languagelover96 · 17/09/2021 13:58

Cash
A nice pub for lunch
A trip to a game shop etc

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 17/09/2021 14:01

Pay for a nice lunch for him if that's what he wants.
If what he wants is to do it alone then let that be your gift to him.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 17/09/2021 14:08

I crave time alone. You can completely please yourself. Go where you like, stay as long as you like, eat whatever you like, no comments etc etc. If that's your thing, why not. 🙂
Undertheoldlindentree · 17/09/2021 14:14

I have several DS and DN's and for each 18th birthday got them a kitbag/duffebag/travel bag. Good quality brands like North Face, Mountain Equipment or Rab are often on offer at Cotswold Outdoor/Ultimate Outdoor/Go Outdoors etc. It's something they probably wouldn't spend money on themselves but so handy for the next decade or so....uni/travel/festivals/laundry. And it hints at new horizons and a life ahead so just seems to fit for a significant birthday,

Just seen a great offer on this one, but loads of other colours and makes around.

Steam gift card
Good gaming headset
Gaming mouse
Fancy glow-in-the-dark keyboard
Stuff related to his favorite game (keychains, tshirts, scarfs etc with the logo)

If he's does lets play videos then maybe a video editor like Clipify or Lightworks. Maybe he could also use a video slideshow software- www.techtimes.com/articles/244986/20190813/what-s-the-best-choice-top-5-slideshow-software.htm
