Non-chocolate, non-gift advent calendar

I want a regular (traditional?) advent calendar, with pictures inside the windows. No chocolate or make up or wine or anything, just pictures. It could be religious Christmas pictures or seasonal Christmas pictures, I don't mind. And in particular I would love the windows to be scattered around, not in straight up and down rows/columns. Last year I had a beautiful one with seasonal themed art inside but I got it from an art gallery overseas.
Any tips? Anyone seen something good in the shops or online recently?

John Lewis and Fortnum and Mason always have lovely ones. F&M has a 3D paper one this year that looks especially lovely.

Garden centres often sell this type of calendar, we've had two from Dobbies.

There is an online company that specialises in Advent Calendars, some of them are fabulous!

WH Smith always has a few if you don't want to spend too much. The last couple I've had were from Amazon (sorry) by Alison Gardiner and fit your brief.

dementedma · 13/09/2021 17:55

Usually get mine in garden centre shops like Dobbies or Lochleven's Larder

I still remember one I had that was a Santa and the arms and legs moved when you pulled the ribbon. My Aunty bought us both one in 1986.

Angela Harding does beautiful advent calendars. We had the cottage with the deer last year and I've saved it for reuss this year.

I bought some nice Ling ones from Amazon last year (the sheep in hats one and the Christmas cottage one). See here: [https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=ling+advent+calendar&ref=nb_sb_noss]

I usually buy myself one from John Lewis. I love trad Advent calendars, probably because we never had them as kids.

AnnaSW1 · 13/09/2021 18:38

John Lewis always has them.

fuzzymoomin · 13/09/2021 18:40

@CornishTiger My little brother had the same Santa with the moving arms and legs, would have been about the same time as you, I really remember that!

Thanks for all of these suggestions, so many nice ones already. I might end up with a few! Maybe I can have one for October, November, December, January.

Larger churches or cathedrals with a shop sell them, both religious themed and more generic snowy type ones.

Got a gorgeous Chatsworth one from their shop a few years back.

I love this one for a bit of nostalgia, they do all sorts of other picture calendars too, worth taking a look.

I've got them from Waterstones quite a few times or from Art shops or randomgift shops, you need to looking for them in October time. My kids favourite (we reuse it) is this pop up one because Santa always leaves chocolates in the presents on Christmas Eve. I spent hours last year constructing this one but it is gorgeous and will come out again this year.
