DS2 turns 5 at Christmas. GPs etc are going to look at me for ideas, except I've only got one, a new tablet.

All ideas welcome, he has the usual stuff bike, scooter, more lego than I know what to do with.

What sort of budget are we thinking?

Playmobil firefighting range is pretty cool

An experience rather than a toy? Or season pass to somewhere fun.

Lockdownbear · 11/09/2021 18:31

Budget is flexible as we still have his birthday to get for and I need ideas for the Grandparents too.

I do feel guilty as it feels like we are buying stuff for the sake of buying. But he's only turning 5, he needs some stuff to open.

Knex might be a good shout.

Knex and magformers (or any brand of thr magnetic tile toy) are big favourites with our almost 5 year old.
Also the smart games like 3 little piggies, if he likes puzzles?

katienana · 11/09/2021 20:05

I usually get the Smyths catalogue and go through it together.
My 5 year old likes:
Superhero figures
Batman batcave playset
Hot wheels set with spinny thing that goes upside down
Batbot (transforms into a car)
Transformers
Playmobil (especially the water park sets as adding water is always fun)
Playdoh
Craft sets (aquabeads, chocolate lolly
maker etc)
Board game

katienana · 11/09/2021 20:09

Posted too soon. A board game is always great to play together on the day, mouse trap went down well.
He also likes switch & go dinos, treasure x stuff, and a Dino smasher egg which had loads of elements to it.

Season ticket for somewhere like a zoo or aquarium. Can wrap it up with a little soft toy animal and an invitation to come and see them.

The only stuff my Ds ever loved at Christmas and birthday in late November last year aged 5 was his Bruder Landrover, battleships game, toy handcuffs and some Playmobil police stuff to go with his police station. Anything else was a big fail tbh, he wanted a globe that his sister had but couldn’t get one.

FuzzyPenguin · 11/09/2021 20:54

If you are getting a tablet what about money towards subscriptions of a game? My DS was obsessed with the sago mini games/ world at that age. I know this is not everyone’s top choice but it beats adding more toys to the pile.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 11/09/2021 21:29

What about something for the garden? A swing set or climbing frame? Den making kit, scooter, nerf guns etc

Twilightstarbright · 11/09/2021 21:44

Yoto player?

Number109 · 11/09/2021 21:46

I’m suggesting screwball scramble for my 5 year old who loves her marble run.

Lockdownbear · 11/09/2021 21:51

A game subscription could be a good thought. We've never had any Playmobil so I'll have a look at that.

We already have a trampoline and are only a couple of minutes walk to the playpark so I don't really want swings in the garden. He already has a scooter.
