Father Christmas has just driven down our street

Ds1 and dd are ecstatic - neither of them 'believe' in FC (we just have never 'done' that, but they like the story) - they are 6 and 4 - but we just heard carols, opened the door, and coming down our road was an excellent lit up sleigh, with lit up reindeer, and a fab Father Christmas on the sleigh (on the back of a car iyswim) - they were so excited, gave some money for the charity, got lollies, and ds1 shouted HO HO HO - and FC bowed very low to him.

Proof that you don't need to 'believe' for it to be utterly magical!

I think it was a different charity actually, but I know about the rotary one - my dad usually drives the sleigh (he's not so into dressing up) in their town.

I was so pissed off with our Lyons club or whoever they were, a couple of years back they went down our road, Ds was18 months or so and I got up and raced to the door as he would have loved it. The bloke got his 20p in the tin, the sleigh was long gone, they whizzed past and wouldn't even stop or wait for ds to see it. I even asked them but they basically said piss off, took the cash and ran.

we have moved since then, they don't come up here.

I'm glad you saw it, it's lovely if they stop long enough!

Thats my favourite bit of pre-Christmas stuff! We get the tip of from Kbear at the end of the road, that he's on his way and I tip of everyone else at the other end of the street! Its so magical, in an ameteur kinda way! I get all teary eyed seeing all the kiddies faces light up!

tortoiseSHELL · 03/12/2007 21:50

It was really sweet! Our road is a really quiet road, with a 90 degree bend just past our house, and they pulled the sleigh right onto our side of the road, and stopped for ages so the children could wave properly!

How do you manage with friend's kids who DO believe, Tortoise.. do your DSs and DD tell them the truth??!

Frostythesnownorris · 03/12/2007 21:55

When I was little we used to get something similar coming down our road. It was usually in the week after the local
Christmas parade.

SoupDragon · 03/12/2007 21:57

He's been down our road too DS2 was delighted.

tortoiseSHELL · 03/12/2007 22:00

ShinyHappyStar - actually it's not a problem, because when ds1 was 3 he decided that come Christmas day, HE would be FC - so every CHristmas afternoon he dresses up as FC, delivers a present for everyone (including himself, who has 'mysteriously popped out'). It is SUCH a magical moment, and you can see dd desperately believing that he is in fact FC, although she absolutely knows that he is ds1. So when talking to their friends, they still maintain that FC comes to our house, and they are both incredibly imaginative, so have weaved their own imaginary story. In the same way as they would never admit that Fireman Sam or Buzz Lightyear are imaginary, FC is real in their imaginations.

Ours was standing and waving too. And talking into a microphone.

DS1 didn't want to stop playing on the computer to come and wave [sob]
